Oldskool 6,644 #1 Posted March 12, 2021 I may have a chance to grab what I believe Kohler calls an L600. It's an inline 4 cylinder. liquid cooled. I think it's about 15hp and turns 1800rpm. I missed out on one before but may not let this one get away. This one is supposedly set up for multi fuel. Gasoline or propane. Here is a picture of one I snagged off of the internet. Does anyone have any experience with these? 1 1

Stepney 2,325 #7 Posted March 12, 2021 (edited) L600 was a generator engine primarily. That one seems to be as well. I've been looking for one for years but finding one in good shape isnt easy anymore. They are not fitted with a flywheel, the generator armature and a cast in cooling 'fan' acts as the flywheel. As a split engine they can not be run. Somewhere on the SmokStak forum there is a long post devoted to an older OHV version that was converted for stationary use. Dual fuel is rather uncommon. They were built from the early 50's up into the 60's or so before being replaced with a modified improved model I think they called the L650? Been a minute. There are three of these L600 units in a building near Port Clyde. But getting them off the island proved too difficult.. Or is it more for the support of the crank that it cant be run split?

Oh anything's possible I suppose, that's how this fellow on the other fourm did it. They are fairly low speed. But I think the head is a tapered shaft and I forget how the armature is affixed. If you could get a good flywheel on there you'd be golden. How you'd do that it a little beyond me.

It might be more work then it's worth for me. Are you interested in it?

Do you now if its really an L600 in the first place? There were Kohler stationary engines other than it. Some of which obviously would have a proper flywheel.
