What's this old tachometer fit??

Bought this off the fleabay with a couple other things because I was curious to see how it works. 

 

 

The part at the back where my finger is touching does turn. 

 

Any thoughts?

It comes with rubber tips that are concave, flat and pointed to suit the end of a shaft. Electric motors usually have a drilled center point that the pointed tip fits in.

Bought one new in the 70's and very accurate when compared with a digital tach.

Really handy if you can get to the center of a rotating shaft on anything.

Be real handy for setting idle & 3600 rpms . Better than those pos digital ones I keep gettin.

Yep, had a couple of those around work at the dams. We used them for electric motors, pumps, gearboxes, etc.  oooo Sqonk has a shiny one!

I have one of these Starrett tachometers:

Fitts a wheel horse of course. take off  the flywheel screen and hold it against the center of the rotating crank shaft. May want to widdle that rubber a little to kind of a point with a chamfer.
