ebinmaine 67,309 #1 Posted March 7, 2021 @WHX24 and other folkses. Here's some pics from the digital camera gifted to Trina a few months ago. Been fiddling with settings and learning how to get out of it what she wants. Here's a few pics of animals she's taken. You'll recognize a chickadee. The other bird is a redpoll. A type of finch that isn't super common in Maine. We had a flock of them hang out for a couple weeks recently. Both were on our side deck. The deer was in the section of forest just beyond the fenced in area this evening. It moved just as she hit the button but it came out ok. This camera is another instance of the generosity of this here 🤡 crowd. Thanks Jim. 13
8ntruck 6,991 #2 Posted March 7, 2021 EB - nice pictures. What kind of lens was used? Looks like it might have been a long one. We'be had a few redpolls stop by our feeders this winter as well.
WHX?? 48,795 #3 Posted March 7, 2021 (edited) Fiddle away EB .... thing about these cameras is soooo many settings to get rhe right pic. I tell Cindy is just keep hammering the button & chances are yer gonna get one pic comes out good, focus and what not ... rest can be deleted as easy as they were taken. Throw a little shell corn out or those sunflowers for the deer .... that gets them to stand still. Took this one just a few days ago but no idea what's with the blue hue.... was broad daylight but taken thru a window?? If you have an adjustment for white balance, play with that setting.

I’ll have to plant a few spots in the field this spring! How long ‘fore those bucks shed their forks?

8ntruck 6,991 #8 Posted March 7, 2021 (edited) @roadapples - what are you putting out to attract the turkeys? I've seen some about 5 miles up the road from us. The neighbouring property is wooded, and that property borders on a state game area. Wouldn't surprise me if there were turkeys nearby. roadapples 6,983 #9 Posted March 7, 2021 Been feeding the deer, birds, and squirrels shell corn and black oil sunflower seeds for 10yrs or more. Turkeys just started coming in last year. I think they felt more comfortable after seeing the deer coming in. Started bringing deer in with a block from TSC. When the wind is right I can smell this from 30 yards. Only 3% salt.

I'll have the BBT look. It's a zoom right in the camera. You folks talk about feedin' the deer.... I'd not be opposed to such interesting activities but we'd be overrun in short order. 🦌🦌 We have an ideal climate/environment for them here and they're quite populous across the whole ridge. We'd likely have 25 or 30, or more within a week or two. As much fun as they are to watch and delicious! They'd screw up the yard too much. @roadapples Mr Apples you've got some great photos there. Thanks for posting!
WHX?? 48,795 #11 Posted March 7, 2021 (edited) Like 'Apples Sylvia... right out the kitchen window with the phone. And I thought I had a herd Jay! Surprised us to see them horns too Kev ... would have thought they would have been shed by now. Cindy is going to walk the woods today looking for sheds. Can't get the Turks to come in tho ... cats chase them off maybe. @Ed Kennell maybe you ought to set up a blind outside of 'Apples window. Besides the PeeAaa Fish and Game considers baiting a felony. I did think I may sleep on Jay's back porch during the big show. 1

Handy Don 12,163 #14 Posted March 7, 2021 11 hours ago, WHX24 said: but no idea what's with the blue hue.. It's a setting in the camera called "white balance". It's fairly common for a camera to be tricked by snow into putting a blue cast into the image. You can edit it back to "normal", if you want to take a minute. On an iPhone or iPad, if you open the image and then tap "Edit" you can manipulate your image. Tap the icon that looks like a volume control to get to the image adjusting tools. Slide the icons of the tools (magic wand, +/-, ying and yang, ...) until you center the list on the one that looks like a mercury thermometer (it's named "warmth" ). Now slide the ruler-like thing next to the list up or down to change the warmth of the picture 'til you like what you see. Tap "Done" to save the change or tap "Cancel" to, well, cancel! (Sorry, @ebinmaine and others, I have no experience with Android photo editing apps, but it should be similar!) 1
