55reasons 171 #1 Posted March 6, 2021 So my center blade decided to take a trip by itself. Went to TORO and this dealer has actually been really good with me thus far. Some of the guys there were there when this thing was brand new on their showroom floor. Anyway, everything is discontinued and the superseded parts require updated washers etc., that are also unavailable. Specifically, the bottom washer with the “teeth” the top washer, the bolts, and the blades are all unavailable. I walked out with a set of blades, but they don’t have the dimples, etc like the originals. What’s the magic fix for this?
55reasons 171 #3 Posted March 6, 2021 I also asked about using tranny fluid OR motor oil in the C160 Auto. The old man told me that back then, Wheel Horse sent a bulletin to the dealers saying that it was ok to switch them over to motor oil with no other modifications necessary. ?
55reasons 171 #4 Posted March 6, 2021 Everything with a red “X” is unavailable. What’s the common fix here?
pfrederi 17,674 #5 Posted March 6, 2021 (edited) You can drive the broken pins out of the spindle hub and put in new roll pins. There is an after market blade Bolt you could use one of the self locking ones from McMasters (or use locktite) Check this link for some renovations Edited March 6, 2021 by pfrederi
JoeM 7,871 #6 Posted March 6, 2021 (edited) A decent bit and oil can drill a blade. They are a little hard not to the point of not being able to have a couple holes drilled. Seen these in the classified, might even have the other parts too?? Edited March 6, 2021 by JoeM
55reasons 171 #7 Posted March 6, 2021 (edited) I appreciate it! I think I would rather migrate away from the original blades and hardware towards a setup that is more sustainable when it comes to quick replacement. I’m considering machining a bottom bushing and finding some sort of top washer and bolt so I can run a regular blade, with a circular hole that doesn’t require roll pins or the extra holes to be drilled in the blade every time. I don’t want to have to rely on NOS and eBay, etc., for normal things like mower blades. Edited March 6, 2021 by 55reasons

But they are available. You have to up grade to a complete different spindle assembly as the housings, bearings shafts and pulleys are different between the DoubleD and the later Metric ( metric are the only ones not discontented.) You can probable buy a later model Wheel Horse with a good metric deck cheaper then three new metric spindles, blades and pulleys from Toro. 0 Edited March 7, 2021 by Lee1977

I’m at the Toro dealer and so far, the three spindles (they they are GUESSING might fit) and matching pulleys tally up to $627.89. and if it doesn’t line up they are non-returnable. so......... ? 55reasons 171 #13 Posted March 13, 2021 (edited) Ok, so, as with everything related to this tractor thus far, something as simple as needing new blades has opened Pandora’s box and I need to just rebuild the whole deck at this point anyway. Where should I be looking for things like wheels, rollers, idler puller springs, glides, height adjustment lever spring, etc..... is there a good site to find most of this in one place? I bit the bullet an ordered new spindle assemblies from Toro, so I might as well sandblast and powdercoat the deck while it’s stripped clean. Thus, now is the time to replace EVERYTHING wrong with it and upgrade all the nuts and bolts along the way. Edited March 13, 2021 by 55reasons
JoeM 7,871 #14 Posted March 14, 2021 This is the newer deck parts manual, I always check against ebay with other prices.
