Stationary water pump?

Has anyone ever driven a water pump like this?  I wonder how the belt stays on, stays tight, aligned...

 

IF I ever someday dig me a pond, I’d like to use it for garden irrigation, etc.

I've not personally done it but I can tell you if it's got two pulleys you probably should use both.

 

Seems to me you'd have to create some kind of a bracket with an idler pulley.

Have been thinking about making an Waterpump WH attachment.

 

In summer nature is so dry, and i would use it for pumping up from the water well we have in the forest.  So the wild animals can drink.

This is my 24v electric pump setup I use with the M37.  It seems to me you could mount your pump on a moveable base (this is a standard electric motor adjustable mount)  Are you going to have a deducted engine or mount it on a WH.   (Eric's 1A08 Milt std engine would be perfect for pumping...)

... Wanting a mount to a horse or off something like above ? You could also yank that pulley of and use a coupling in between depending on rpm requirement .

We used units like that at the phone company for pumping out pits and manholes.  Some were submersible and plugged in...both 110 volt and 12 volt...2", 3" and 4".  We also had carts  (Hesco) with 4 cyl. engines (ran on propane). with the pump running off the cart...usually 2" hoses.

Haven't done one fixed mounted to a Horse but it would be pretty easy I think.
I've run various PTO implements/pumps at the tractor shows with my WH if the older engines happen to peter out. Little high speed pump like that would need a good tight belt though. I'd probably do a jackshaft off the larger PTO sheave, then double belts at the pump. Hang it under mount from the deck brackets, using the weight of the unit as a tensioner.

My thought was this near the water hole, drive the tractor to it and pump... like the old belt driven implements...

Mount it on the tractor like the generators mount drive to the pond and attach the hoses. Then you could use anywhere ( like pump out your basement )..

We were at a camp in Montana when the power failed.  They backed their John Deere up to a generator mounted in a cabinet by a power pole, and ran it with the pto shaft.

 

Maybe you can find a pump meant to be driven by a tractor pto, then use a pto shaft adaptor on the front TachMatic.

 Years ago I bought from Graingers, a trash pump with a 2" inlet and a 2" outlet to mount on the front of my 8 HP 867 so I could water the trees in my yard. We had a few  summers back in the late 80's that were extremely dry, so I pumped the water out of a creek that was in the backyard of my neighbors across the street. I used 400' of fire hose that didn't pass inspection at my place of work at the time and it was just sitting on a shelf.  It worked great!   The pump unit was bolted to the top of a 1/4" plate and two 18"(?) lengths of 1 1/2" of squire tubing were bolted under the plate.  The 2 tubes slipped over 2 - 8" lengths of 1" solid bar that was bolted to each side of the WH frame with short spacers.  The unit slipped forward to tighten the double V belts and backwards to loosen them. I did not use an idler. I had to use a 3/4" jackshaft mounted on 2 pillow block bearings so the pump turned the correct way.  So, there were double V belts from the engine to the jackshaft and a 3/4" wide 'L' timing belt from the other end of the jackshaft to the pump, all driven at a 1:1 ratio. Even with 400' of hose and only 2/3rd throttle, she really pumped and I didn't lose any trees!
