1986 417A Paint decals and more!

I have a 86? 417A with the (louved?) Hood.. I figure I'll have room to store it inside my new shed and I'd like to clean it up this year as I have time. It's purpose is a back up mower / plow tractor.

I'm going with the decals in the picture.

I'm thinking of painting my wheel weights for it maybe flat or gloss? black and also painting all the rims black. Its not intended to be a show piece, but i plan on sand blasting / stripping all panels and easier accessible parts. I'll be using regal red as the color in a rattle can.  I've read its a decent choice.

I also bought 7/16-20x 1.5" bolts and nuts for the rear wheels so it'll be easier to take them off and put back on. I have them on my 416, and i love them.

Thoughts?

Will the 7/16-20x 1.5 bolts work on all horses? I've been trying to figure out the size.

Yepp.

Lug nuts from a mid 60s GM.

Those bolts are tough to find sometimes.

@rmaynard Bob sells a kit.

They will work on everything except the 953/1054/GT-14/C-195/D Series :wh:

These bolts are tough to find... I got the 7/16-20x1.5" grade 8 bolts and grade 8 nuts.  My local hardware store didn't have them, and it's rare when I leave there without something I went there looking for.

I ended up ordering 25 of each online. It's always nice to have some spares in case I find a deal I can't pass up!

It's been at least a couple years now but I ordered grade five bolts in 100 pack because it was only a few bucks more than getting 50, and I knew I had six or eight tractors to do plus I've helped out other folks of time or two.

Bolt Depot in Massachusetts has been doing very well by me for any kind of fasteners for the last few months

@ebinmaine, so the grade 5 do good for you? I wasn't sure if they'd be strong enough, although I'm not pulling a ton of weight... I'm no expert in that, but I figured I couldn't go wrong with the grade 8

You are correct about that but grade 5 is perfectly fine. No worries.

For my regular nut and bolt assortment I actually use ALL grade 8 because I can get it for right around the same price as grade 5 and I figure why not go with the higher?
