t.stevens 0 #1 Posted March 4, 2021 Having trouble starting my Wheel Horse. Plenty of spark, fuel doesn't seem to be the issue. See Video link for sound. Any advice helps, thanks. https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipOa-YcF05_9qAS10y-tH2qgdAaG4myjbY0A-V63MAm4K-7_n_R1v0QdrmoYn9WP_A?key=M1VSVmkyQUM5bndoeDFHVFdWOHdLUDMzVG5oZWlB

Sorry, I can't always get video's to show on my work computer. I.T. locks us out. What make/model engine do you have? Is it battery ignition or magneto? If you have good spark and good gas. The only 2 things left are compression and timing.
Jeff-C175 7,202 #3 Posted March 4, 2021 You're gonna burn out that starter like that. 58 minutes ago, t.stevens said: trouble starting my Wheel Horse Try this Achto, might work. Sorry I may have posted the link incorrectly. The engine is a Briggs and Stratton 11hp IC
Jeff-C175 7,202 #5 Posted March 4, 2021 Just now, t.stevens said: Briggs and Stratton I don't have any like that, but I wonder if it's 'normal' that the starter motor wiggles around like that. It didn't sound like there was much, if any, compression to me. Were there any unusual sounds come from the engine when it quit? The reason I mentioned burning out the starter is because you shouldn't really crank for more than a few seconds, and then the starter should be allowed to cool off.

With a Briggs, if you have fuel, spark and compression but it won't start. Then most of the time these symptoms lead toward the flywheel key being sheared. When this happens it will throw the timing off. Your engine will be a magneto ignition. Edited March 4, 2021 by Achto 3
squonk 41,164 #7 Posted March 4, 2021 Sounds like the starter gear is about to take a dump too!
Renrag 69 #8 Posted March 9, 2021 Don't sound as there's any resistance on the starter at all
