BeninCT 451 #1 Posted February 28, 2021 Bought a set of used tires that were really cracked so “had to” get a new set of tires to put on the rims for summer use. Figure I will just leave the chains on the other set and change them out when the snow is over. Less work than taking the chains on/off 2x a year. So, mounted the tires today and used tubes which meant that I cant do my usual shot of starting fluid and a lighter to set the beads. Now They are on and I inflated them with soap and one side of each wont fully set for some reason no matter how much air I put in. Even put a ratchet strap around one and inflated it again. Any suggestions on how I can seat the last 30% of the bead (just on one side- rims are the right size for the tire)... Thinking I will deflate and use a really soapy soap like dish soap with the strap extra tight.
JoeM 7,874 #2 Posted February 28, 2021 Antegos? If so they are a bear. super stiff sidewalls I had the same problem. Ended up using hand cleaner cream on the tire and bead area. I am thinking it took 60 psi also. Awesome tire and directional. tread.

tom2p 2,394 #5 Posted February 28, 2021 (edited) a quality tire mounting lube should help - and many hand cleaners could also work (?) high pressure inflation should help also - and might be required - but make sure the pressure is regulated - and the tire is mounted securely (on tire machine or whatever) years ago I watched a kid use unregulated / high air pressure to seat a stubborn tire on a wheel ... the wheel / tire was set on the floor it blew the wheel / tire up from the floor - through his arm - and up to and into the ceiling it shattered his arm and elbow - and put a hole in the plaster ceiling not good Edited February 28, 2021 by tom2p
JoeM 7,874 #6 Posted February 28, 2021 (edited) Something else I have done was to pump up the tire as much as I could then remove valve stem guts and use a air gun to shoot a high pressure shot into the tire stem to get it moving the antegos were golf cart tire too tough and traction wise about the same as rubber chains impressive Edited February 28, 2021 by JoeM

BeninCT 451 #9 Posted March 2, 2021 Juiced em up with a special mix of hand cleaner (cherry smell- mistakenly purchased at Napa but will only take 4 years to use...) and meguiars tire shine. Little stretching from a large screwdriver and 50psi and pop
