The Tuul Crib 7,338 #1 Posted February 28, 2021 Was trying to figure out how to attach this hood ornament because one of the pegs was broke off. So I decided to do the silicone route. I put the ornament on the hood and outlined it with tape as close as I could to the edge. Then I put on the silicone!then it was just a matter of dropping the hood ornament in place and wait for at least six or eight hours and clean off the excess! Hope it works!

Tractorhead 9,065 #3 Posted February 28, 2021 Use a neutral Silicone ( acid free) this is a good way to keep it glued even on temps up to 190*C. Normal neutral silicone is able to resist temps up to 240*C. On Metal parts i recommend highly use neutral silicone instead of vinegar networking silicone because of lack of acid in it. to apply i use follow Way. first clean the painted surface and part partially with silicone remover or brake cleaner to degrease apply the silicone on the stickers or ornaments you want to glue. put the decal or ornament in place. get a mixture of soapy water 1:50( dish washer soap) few dribbs in a bit of water in a older emptied spray bottle. ( the bottley typically used for window cleaner or similar) Spray it all the way arround the fresh allready glued part use a small icepick or a sharpened plastic stick to remove the overfill what is squeezed out to smoothen it down to minimum. let it sat for about 6-8 hours. remove the rest of the fine silicone film arround the ornament with silicone remover. get a little polish and clean it finally. you are done. If you want remove a silicone glued sticker or ornament get a sharp filed plastic to put it underand peel it off get a syringe filled with silicone remover ( wear gloves) and fill dribbs behind your plastic peeler) do this carefully with little time and let the silicone remover help you. When the ornament or sticker is down, clean the whole area with silicone remover. you‘re done. This are few plastic removers i built out of an plastic meter. they can be easily made in different shapes and different angles on a band grinder to help lit things even they have a very small gap where you can try . you can also use the grinded sticks to remove silicone rest’s from a painted surfaces without scratching it. gently scrap it down and use silicone remover at least to finish. makes the work easier.
