ebinmaine 67,627 #79 Posted March 8, 2021 Just now, Handy Don said: Well thanks. Guess I was taught wrongly! I remember hearing that many many moons ago as I was growing up and I think the theory behind it was that if one clamp doesn't grab in one direction then the other clamp will grab in the reverse direction. Now I run crane occasionally and even though I do not operate a wire rope crane we had to pass the test. I found that mildly ridiculous but extremely interesting at the same time.

nyquil junkie 225 #83 Posted March 9, 2021 I use a 855 3 speed with a front blade a 301 HF engine and chained duals to do all you want to do and more on 8 acres half of which is hilly. We scrape mud rocks trails...haul wood, scrap off trails and drag a 4" brush hog around to clear brush and mow it all when it gets weedy. I can say from personal use, anything bigger will do the job just fine. 1
nyquil junkie 225 #84 Posted March 9, 2021 Quote Pastures that host animals tend to be rough (Think hoof prints when the ground is wet) I use them in fields with 12 over friendly retired dairy cows. "hoof prints in wet ground" is a really kind term for the terrain I drive over. LOL

LOL Riding a Wheelhorse tractor through that field must be something like riding a hair covered buckin bronco
nyquil junkie 225 #86 Posted March 9, 2021 (edited) I have duals on the back with about 3" space between them....it actually skips over rough mud pretty well. Still can loosen your teeth sometimes. Beats walking across it . Edited March 9, 2021 by nyquil junkie 1
Searcher60 209 #87 Posted March 9, 2021 Looks like your points cover is missing unless you took it off. I have paid way to much for all my horses, except the 2 X 520’s I purchased sorta cheap which makes me even for the ones I paid way, way, to much for. I could not have went to $1500, only because I know what it costs to do major repairs on a horse. But, I am into an Electro 12 restoration for probably over $2000 now. I’ll have $600 in the tires and wheels alone. You should be ok if the engine and trans are good. If. Every WH I have purchased with a Kohler ended up needing a rebuild. But, in fairness one had been underwater in a flood. The other 2 had been sitting for years. Never had a major issue with the Onans, only wiring harness. The 520H and Onan 416H are the best classic Wheel Horses. Single cylinder Kohler’s not even close. The 2 cylinder Onan is worth it if only just because it doesn’t vibrate the tractor into pieces. Onan is smooth as glass. Best wishes with your new horse.
krystolo 504 #88 Posted March 11, 2021 Dumb question- where is the engine oil filter, and what replacement part should I use? I’ve searched the forum, and can’t seem to find the answer. Found the transmission filter, and will be replacing it and adding oil to the reservoir. thanks!

haydendavid380 759 #93 Posted March 13, 2021 I think I found an air cleaner for you on a parts run this morning. I'll take better pictures when I get home and other will have to confirm it's the right one, but the guy said it was for a 16hp single cylinder kohler.
Pullstart 62,912 #94 Posted March 13, 2021 For the engine, NON-DETERGENT 30 wt. oil or SAE30 is recommended.
haydendavid380 759 #95 Posted March 13, 2021 @krystolo It's certainly a monster compared to the one on my K181
ebinmaine 67,627 #96 Posted March 13, 2021 That looks like the right filter housing. @pullstart The oil listing in the 60s and 70s was absolutely non detergent. Kohler updated the manual to cover all engines to require detergent oil. I've since switched over to using detergent HD30 Kinetix for summer and 10w30 for the cold season.
