WHX?? 48,828 #2 Posted February 26, 2021 Way cool Lane that needs to go in vintage pics too! Where did you find it? Pearlitic cast iron is a term I have not heard before. Had to google that one. Metallurgy at it's finest...... Pearlite - Wikipedia
ri702bill 8,339 #3 Posted February 26, 2021 (edited) Nice ad. Funny, the engine shown is not exactly the same as the 702 has - coil location, S/G guard, and an oil bath air cleaner. I still get a kick out of the last full line at the bottom - several very different product lines .... We used to use a type of fine grain cast iron called Meehanite back when I was assembling Gun Drills - it was of excellent quality, easy to machine, but gave off a peculiar foul smell when doing so. Lane Ranger 10,968 #4 Posted February 26, 2021 (edited) One of my WH blog finds! Unusual one for sure. Yes interesting 7 HP as I never saw one with an oil bath air cleaner! Apparenlty the Cub Cadet tractors had a model with the 7 HP and the oil bath air cleaner ! Just like one in ad picture. Bill I wonder if that starter / belt guard configuration was a pre-production model, or if it was a different application?

Different spec number used in other brands .... a vintage Bolens comes to mind ? @Stepney might know. Note the side bar what rags it was used in! ri702bill 8,339 #7 Posted February 26, 2021 Wow - March of 1962 - I was 7 going on 8. Lived in Providence where my parents had a postage sized back yard - no need for a tractor!

Stepney 2,325 #9 Posted February 27, 2021 I think that's just a 'stock photo' of the K161. Old Jacobsen used a similar belt cover. The oil bath is pretty scarce. Cub Original had one and .. did some of the early WH RJ/953 models?? I dont mess with that era much. I have a Kohler book with a similar dressed K241 on the cover. Just industrial use.
