Horse_rebuilder 5 #1 Posted February 25, 2021 Hello, I am aware that the k series engines from k181 through k341 all have the same block with different internals and if one were to want to put a k341 rebuild kit in a k181 that it would be possible with a different head, now is the magnum engines the same? Not only is the bore different on each engine, but the stroke is different. http://resources.kohler.com/power/kohler/enginesUS/pdf/tp_2203_a.pdf If there is enough meat in the cylinder to bore a M10 out to fit a M16 piston you will end up with a piston that probably will not reach the top of the cylinder. Because it is decked to have a longer stroke. This would greatly reduce compression giving you a loss of power instead of gaining power. I am not familiar enough with the "M" engines to know if you could put a M16 crank and rod in a M10 engine or know if the cylinder is long enough to accommodate. If you could fit every thing then it would work but after parts cost you would be better off to find a complete M16 to rebuild. M12 through M16 all have the same stroke. As long as there is enough meat on the cylinder walls, you could bore a M12 out to use a M16 piston. This may require some custom work on the inside of the head to drop the compression some. As others have pointed out there are a lot of differences between the 10 and 16. I would think your best bet may be to buy a good used M-16 from a reputable dealer. Most K series blocks were cast to the diameter and wall thickness of the size engine they were to be, i.e. a k301 is a 12hp and only has enough cylinder wall thickness to go 0.030 or 0.040 thousands over size for a 12 hp. however what you may have heard about is a block that has 13 fins. These blocks were sort of universal and could be machined to be a 12,14 or 16hp cylinder diameter. The crankshaft is different for each of those engines as mentioned above. So these 13 fin blocks are good if you han another 16hp with a hole in the block you could find a 13 find block of 12,14,0r 16 hp as machine it to be a 16 hp replacement. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
