Were hard on my flock a while back!  I seldom see a squirrel any more.

I see a hawk ever now and then, wished there were more. 2 years ago the squirrels got the large majority of pecans from my 2 trees and I declared war. I trapped 43 last year and did not make much of a dent in the neighborhood population. I’m at 6 this year. I’ve currently got a smart one cleaning out my live trap without setting it off. But I’ll get it.

My Dad has had nut trees for decades and has killed hundreds of squirrels through the years sometime over a hundred a year!  They just kept coming!

Just now reduced their population on this side of the river with a .22 short.   They destroyed a lot of my peaches last year.  There were enough peaches available to them on the trees, so I couldn't get them interested in the hav-a-heart trap, so no other option.   I have a hawk, but he can't keep up, and seems more interested in small birds.

Dad had to pop them with a .22 air pellet.

Some day when my wife notices this, I am going to have some 'splainin to do.:hide: This is the siding corner of our house. We have a couple of black squirrels that like to raid the bird feeders. They scrape out everything to get to what they want. I declared war. I got out my trusty Co2 powered BB pistol.  Alas, I'm no Dan'l Boone ya know. I am going to tell her it was a bird. A cousin to the woodpecker.A Black Throated Plasticpecker!

Vinyl patch time before it is too late!  Just fill it, nothing more.  Try to get something behind to help support your filler.  Duct tape on putty knife perhaps.

We have gray squirrels that sometimes leave the yard assisted by flying metal.

Reds are the most destructive here.

VERY hard to shoot though.

Reds are our native ones. Unfortunately some good few years back, greys got imported. Started in the south and have been working their way up north. They carry a pox that is fatal to the reds. We've seen both round here, but not often.

Some of my neighbors or OK with my pellet gun, some are not!  So I just live trap them and tell those neighbors I "relocate" them down the county road (where that big truck takes them once a week).

I continually rotate bail, corn, sunflower seeds, pinto bean seeds, peanuts.

Strange, most places it's illegal to kill them except during hunting season...

That's true in Maine except:

This is a direct quote.

, “a person may lawfully kill, or cause to be killed, any wild animal or turkey, night or day, found in the act of attacking, worrying or wounding that person’s domestic animals or domestic birds or destroying that person’s property.”

Things that deserve killing', as they say.

They are destructive, the reds are the worst, we lay them low anytime we see them. That's why we stopped feeding the birds. The bears also were getting the feeder all the time, lot less mice in the house also.

I do feed the birds and give them extra when the ground is completely snow covered.  The squirrels ruin the whole thing with their greed.

I noticed yesterday that squirrels are getting under the hood of my mostly parked 1998 Chevy 4 x 4 Silverado Z-71.

I only crank and move it about once a week since I have a company truck...

Seriously thinking about trapping or BB gun...

Before I retired there was a guy at work that had a new 20016 Chevy 4 dr. The gray rock squirrels loved that trucks wiring, chewed it up several times.  didn't bother any other vehicles in the parking lot except his!

The rocket scientists that decided to use a soy based product for wire insulation is the problem.  Sure, rodent food under the hood, that's gonna work. :teasing-dunce:

BB gun

Spring loaded 22 caliber pellet gun.

Reasonably quiet. Ammo is cheap. Pretty strong.

I don't know what you're after but around here a bb or a 177 pellet will merely dent a gray squirrel
