peter lena 8,583 #1 Posted February 24, 2021 while going over to my daughters house , spotted a white softball size object , swooping down to the ground , road was empty ,so I slowed down to verify what I was seeing, as I closed the distance , it was an eagle making a hit on a squirrel , in heavy brush. all but hiding the eagle with the background cover, it was over very quickly , eagle was picking at it as it lifted off , nature at work is an awesome thing to see, pete 8 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Last time Trina and I were bushwacking down through the woods with a friend of ours we were stopped at a swamp that's about 2,500 ft behind our house and we could see two adults way way off in the distance. We were standing around shooting the breeze and really enjoying the peace and quiet for a few minutes and an immature eagle came within about 300 or 400 ft of us on the other side of the swamp. Something about segregation perhaps? Never could understand why the raptors don't turn on them, but typically there are MANY crows and only one 'victim', so it may be a strength in numbers thing. When I used to do a lot of field hunting it was not uncommon to see a murder of crows circling the top of a tree and yelling at the top of their lungs, CAW! CAW! CAW! ... there was always an Owl trying to get a way from them cowering in the tree top. As they circled and screamed, more and more crows would show up for the lynching. lynnmor 7,302 #10 Posted February 24, 2021 I am near the Susquehanna River where there are a number of eagles. Too bad they have enough fish, I have plenty of squirrels raiding my bird feeders. Last summer I saw an eagle dining on roadkill, I thought they had more class than that. I just took a short walk in the woods and saw plenty of coyote tracks, they need thinning as well. Several years back the neighbor ran a trap line and threw a bunch of the skinned carcasses out in the field. Within a few hours there were over a dozen bald eagles.
