squonk 41,155 #26 Posted February 24, 2021 Spray it with carb cleaner and go have a couple of brewski's. The crack will show up and you'll be using that flywheel for an ashtray.

I was able to get a new flywheel for my K161 from Lincoln. Hopefully my wife will let me use one of her torque wrenches. Impacts are great in reverse! Got to be careful or grab another wrench for the other direction. 1

Or spray with penetrating oil, let it set 5 to 10 minutes, then spray with carb cleaner to clean the surface, then sprinkle with talcum powder. The powder will draw some oil out of the cracks and make them visible. Dye check kits do the same thing, but with red dye instead of the oil and an aerosol spray powder. squonk 41,155 #31 Posted February 24, 2021 (edited) Late 80's 4bbl GM305 engines. Using antifreeze with no sign of a leak. Pull the intake. Spray the lifter valley with carb cleaner. go have a cup of coffee. Come back and there are the cracks! (Same thing with the 3.1 V-6 only it was the rear driver side cylinder) Edited February 24, 2021 by squonk
