clueless 3,007 #1 Posted February 23, 2021 When was the last year the 6 inch front wheels tractor came out?
Ed Kennell 38,332 #2 Posted February 23, 2021 My '86 312H had the 6"ers. It has 8" now. No clue on last year.

I think the 6 inch front wheels were started around 1985 for the two blade 37 SD inch deck, just wondering when the last year they were produced?
953 nut 55,398 #4 Posted February 23, 2021 Take a look at the pictures in the 2007 thread I attached to your other post. The front spindles are the long ones so 6" wheels were used right up to the end.

Actually I believe when they put the 'Classic GT' decal on the side and quit using the '315' is when the 6" wheels went away but I'm kinda guessing. My 2005 came with 8". peter lena 8,661 #6 Posted February 24, 2021 never liked the look of the 6" wheel, always changed mine over , to 8" , the side view with the smaller wheel is out of proportion to the frame size . my 82 C -85 had 8" originally, the two other horses I have just did not look right when paired up to the older unit. just my own opinion , have all 3 set up the same way , in all areas , to make things reliable and simple , mixing both older and newer , builds, pete
clueless 3,007 #7 Posted February 24, 2021 My thought is when they quit producing the 37 inch side discharge deck is when they stopped using the 6 inch wheels.
Racinbob 11,116 #8 Posted February 24, 2021 There's not a lot of information out there for the final years of the Wheel Horse that we all know. It looks to me like the last 5-6 years there wasn't a lick of difference in them. Maybe even dating back to when they started using Command Pro engines which I believe was 98 or 99. Everything I've found lists 16x8.50-8 fronts leading me to believe the 6" fronts were discontinued in the 90's.

953 nut 55,398 #11 Posted February 25, 2021 Yes, my '87 had 6" front tires also used on my '92. The 8" front tires were used on the larger displacement units like the 417.
tom2p 2,394 #12 Posted February 25, 2021 (edited) 6" fronts on the classic 300-400 series garden tractors don't pass the eye test bad decision maybe the 6" fronts could have been offered as a dealer option for use with the 37" deck ... or whatever I rolled a 6" tire off the rim plowing brush / dirt - and then later a 6" front tire developed a large bubble providing the motivation to finally replace the 6" fronts with 8" fronts Edited February 25, 2021 by tom2p
953 nut 55,398 #13 Posted February 25, 2021 300 series had the 6" front tires (15-6.00 X 6) and the 400/500 series had the 8" front tires ((16-6.50 X 8). Look at the brochures!
Ed Kennell 38,332 #14 Posted February 25, 2021 I replaced the factory 6" wheels on my '86 312H with 8" wheels and kept the longer 6" spindles. This gave me additional clearance under the front axle allowing higher lifting for the snow plow and front tiller.

I did the same - replaced 6" fronts with 8" fronts on a 312-8 and kept the longer spindles I also have an extra set of short spindles - but prefer the long spindles Edited February 25, 2021 by tom2p
