He was the type of man who was fascinated with tools, but not good ones. He must have had five full tool kits from the Dollar Store which he kept in his car and truck. He had a rolling tool chest with drawers full of sockets and handles. He had coffee cans with miscellaneous sockets. But among the hundreds of tools I sorted, there wasn't a single decent Craftsman or other name-brand. Do I have 10mm sockets? You betcha'. But would I used them on anything good? Not on your life. A late friend of mine used to buy cheap sets of spanner’s for a couple of pounds from Sunday markets etc. He used to say “I would rather have a couple of sets of cheap spanners under the car seats if I break down miles from home than sets of Snap On or other expensive ones sitting at home”. “And if I lose any after using them only once, they’ve paid for themselves”!

Rice Burners : 12,14,16,18mm They have changed this around a bit. Domestic = 8,10,13,15,18 Asian imports = 8,10,13,14,16,17,19 Other than the 10mm you can use domestic wrenches to work on the imports 8=5/16, 13=1/2, 14=9/16, 16=5/8, 17=11/16, 19=3/4. I think this is why when you buy a cheap china set of wrenches, they don't have 15mm or 18mm in them.

953 nut 55,098 #37 Posted February 24, 2021 In the mid '80s I got a combination wrench set that had the typical shop mechanics in mind. It had one each of 5/16, 3/8, 5/8, 11/16, 7/8. It had three each of 7/16 and 3/4 and four each of 1/2 and 9/16.

I have like 38 of them but I'm too lazy to look for them in my mess of a bird's nest of a garage. Steve. Yeah sure friend. Can you hold this huge curvy sword for me for just a minute? Neighbor. You know what? Nevermind.. My incredibly lovely wife who's not a ball and chain or nagging at me all the time at all asked/ demanded me to clean out the garage basement carriage house workshop and pool shed today so that's what I'm going to go do... 1

But Ford had to throw 11mm in the mix as well as 5.5mm screws in the door panels somewhere in the 2000's. WTH!! I figured they must have gotten a smoking deal on a couple of boatloads of them or something!! When I was still in the bodyshop, I used magnetic sockets. They can really save you some time and make you money, but you cry when you lose a $25 socket in the quarter panel!! Randy
