oliver2-44 9,766 #26 Posted February 22, 2021 You can't run liquid and slime in a tire at the same time. if tire leaks any you need to put a tube in it. Also many of us don't like slime as it causes the rims to rust inside the tire. As others have mentioned if you run duals put a lot less air pressure in the outside tires. That stuff is AWFUL! and if you ever take a tire off the rim you will puke from the smell and be afraid to handle what you see inside. Also it will RUST THE RIM! DennisThornton 4,769 #30 Posted February 22, 2021 Never fill! Wonder why? Fill all four rear tires to 12 psi! Wonder why? I'll bet many here will disagree with at least the last! And the first confuses me!

The inside of the rims were completely rusted out from someone (may have been me when I didn't know any better) put that Green PukeSnot in the tires. I'll see if I can find the pictures... Sure, the rust MAY have been from water in my air lines, but the ones I've changed that did NOT use the Snot were reasonably pristine. Any that had Slime in them were rusted to 5h1t. And the stench... OMG... I don't have a pic of the wheels themselves, but this pic of the tire tells the story I believe. That 'stuff' hanging out is the 'fibers' from the slime mixed with the rust flakes from the wheel. When I broke the bead I jumped back because I thought there was a dead rabbit inside the tire. Special axles but still the same needle bearings to deal with stress leverage of heavy wheels and the issue of stopping it once it was rolling

If there isn't rust inhibitors in Slime there really should be!

Not while static, but what about starting to move, moving and stopping? Is that enough to matter? I don't know, but I'd think not. But it seems most everyone here suggest little to no air on the outside tires! That makes perfect sense to me.
TJ5208 1,824 #36 Posted February 22, 2021 Okay well in building a front weight out of a concrete block send a pic when I get home don't have internet all the time thanks for the input probably make a you tube video so I'll see what I can do probably will weight 40 pounds

When you are rolling along and one side hits a small rock or root it slows, the other side has momentum. There is front to rear and up and down impact stress on the bearings magnified by the extra 292 pound.stress on the outer needle bearing. Longer axles make the lever effect more severe Edited February 22, 2021 by pfrederi

Longer axles make the lever effect more severe Yeah, I can see that, but is it significant? I suppose more so with the leverage. Well, all in all, what I was all excited about a few years ago has become, "Nope!". If I had a FEL on a GT AND was lifting high to load a truck, maybe, but I won't as long as I have a compact. Other than that I'm not sure what dual are good for. Especially if they aren't to be weighted!

DennisThornton 4,769 #44 Posted February 22, 2021 Well, removing tires from rims begins with letting the air out. Yep, it can still take some effort but I managed just the other day by pushing on the sidewall when stuck in snow. Your mileage may vary. 1
TJ5208 1,824 #45 Posted February 22, 2021 I thought it would help with traction
DennisThornton 4,769 #46 Posted February 22, 2021 Lowering psi SOME is a way to gain traction when stuck, but not when operating, and NOT when flat. I think most of us here will recommend weight for increased traction, then chains, then more weight! Unless you are trying to get floatation and ride over the snow or mud. DennisThornton 4,769 #47 Posted February 22, 2021 If your flat tires gained much traction they would peel right off the rims!

I have run slime for years with no rusting on my rims. We had thorny locust trees and just no way to keep tires from going flat without using it. Is it a mess when you change a tire, absolutely!! I don't have to change tires that often so it's not a big deal for me, but I will always run my stuff with slime in it! Randy
