18 x 8.50-8 3 rib tires

Looking to find a front tire for 18 Auto to help with Snow. My current turf tire just push the Snow and drive into the pile!

So, I found these about 120 ea.

oh, I see. No, this is an 18 Auto. It’s way heavier than a Raider 10!

I can drive any of my small tractors in the Snow regardless of the tires.

This is a heavy front end and it just plows into the ground on Snow covered ground, not pavement.

I read in another post about reversing a set of ags?

Now, this is a tire easily found for under 65 ea. The Hartfords 3 rib is 120.00 ea.

Basically the big "D" series but what is the factory front tire size? 16x7.50-8 or 18x8.50-8?

18x8.50-8 factory these and they just sink?

You may have to go bigger 20/22x10-8 and lower air pressure, but if you mow with it then you have to readjust the deck.

So, your saying go bigger. I do have a pair of 20’s but trying to wrap my head around that one........

The bigger foot print from a bigger tire will get even a bit bigger if you reduce the air pressure.  Bigger foot print less PSI on the ground.  However she will be harder to steer....

So does your tractor get stuck on Snow off the pavement?

I know one thing for sure, making it harder to steer would be a step backwards for me, as you know these things have a horrific turning radius.

So reversed ags or the 3 rib Hartford’s.

Maybe there are limits to what this machine is engineered to do? I know about the weight displacement I couldn’t grasp exactly how that would be an improvement?

@ebinmaine do you agree that the bigger tires (yours are weighted) on the front caused you more steering effort?

I do agree. 

Kind of a loaded question though. 

 

I notice very little difference from 6.5 wide to 8.5 wide on air filled tires. 

 

The fluid fill though... Causes a fair amount more down pressure so steering is certainly more difficult. 

That's a worthwhile trade-off though because of the HUGE increase in TRACTION.

Most likely these here will be only air filled trying to help float over snow instead of sinking, therefore going from 8.50 wide to 10 wide would in theory help this situation and not cause more steering effort.

I do have the larger tires......Wouldn't the Hartford 3 Rib travel in smaller surface and move through Snow? Plus the turning advantage of that tire? Or the reversed ag?

I see so many referral's to roller chain! I asked a couple questions of members that run D's in the Winter and no answer is forthcoming whether or not their tractors sink off the pavement. Smaller , lighter tractors I have no problems with, like comparing apples to oranges!

Our experience here with tires in snow is that they don't steer at all when not weighted or chained or both. 

We do have a non level terrain so I take that into account. 

 

I realize that others have had perfectly fine results with rubber on snow. 

 

That said I'd get the AG tires because it would be easier to mount a roller chain if needed later.

  Has anyone mounted roller chain on an AG tire??? Would like to see a picture and hear how it works ,

We've not run them on the front yet but that's what I'd do.

If it was set up like the one pictured above with a good center section I think it would work well.
