BeninCT 451 #1 Posted February 19, 2021 Saw a news article today saying the Toro was recalling thousands of snow blowers because the auger doesnt stop when the handle is released. Would post the link if I thought I was allowed. Anyone else see it? Doesnt common sense tell you not to put your hand into the spinny thing being run by the noisy gas engine that you just pull started? Recall makes sense because the machine isnt working as designed.... 2

Thanks for posting Ben. I popped it up a couple days ago too. Always better to do something safety related just in case!!

Achto 27,509 #6 Posted February 19, 2021 Years ago a owners manual for your car would have instructions on changing a tire or setting the spark plugs gap. Now it tells you "Don't drink the battery acid" 2 4

Pullstart 62,801 #10 Posted February 19, 2021 I helped one of Mrs. P’s friends get a new snowblower the other day... or a couple weeks ago. Last week, she took a personal day off work, in terrible spirits. Her little nephew was following her while she was running the new blower in their driveway. She felt his presence and decided to wait until later to finish. She turned it around to head back to the garage and he slipped and fell feet first into the auger. She stopped it, but it was able to fracture his ankle first. I agree, he had no business following her and it was a perfectly terrible storm but accidents do happen.

JoeM 7,871 #13 Posted February 20, 2021 I remember a old snowblower story. Every morning at work, 9am sharp, we conducted a planning meeting. All the department heads and the Safety Director included. One of the things discussed was the accidents (if any) from the previous 24 hours. The Safety guy started with this every meeting. If you had and accident in your area a mitigation explanation was requested. The Safety Guy would bust our balls picking apart our plans. One morning we were getting ready and the Safety guy came in and had his arm in a sling, gaze bandages and elastic wrapped hand. The GM said let's start with safety, and one of the department heads ask about the hand. The GM turned to him (safety guy) and said why don't you share your story? He said this happened at home, GM said I know. He went on about trying to clear the chute on his running snow blower and just about lost two fingers. Boy did he take the heat about that accident. Lots of "what are you going to do about it" questions! Justice was served!

Same rule here. Even my little paddle wheel single stage toro would do some major damage to a kids arm... Kids know they stay in the cars on the SL&WHN RR until all stop and engine is off... Pics sitting with Uncle Jim on the WH are always with the engine off... Fun and safe... Edited February 20, 2021 by SylvanLakeWH 1

Stepney 2,325 #23 Posted February 20, 2021 And here, I've been known to bump my big block K's over with a heel on the flywheel screen, and start a B-80 by pulling it over .. via the deck belt. Used to be a local foreign 'landscaper' in the area with a classic E-start only Lawn Boy. He would fire the bugger up with a 12v Makita drill on the BLADE nut.. Not the flywheel nut.. the blade.. And people are recalling the Toro over a ... seemingly obvious spinning impeller?
