RobMcC 5 #1 Posted February 19, 2021 Good morning! last night my snow blower chain broke and stopped my GT 315-8 engine instantly now the starter won't even engage like one of the safety over rides (seat, reverse, electric clutch, etc ) is blocking it. i tried PTO clutch on and off, gear shift wiggle and looking under the seat for a jam. also tried unplugging the clutch cable. Any ideas? i had already purchased a new chain and idler sprockets just came in Wed.... Dragged it up the drive way backwards but could not get it in the shed, first winter night out side ever for this tractor... 3 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

pfrederi 17,676 #3 Posted February 19, 2021 First see if you can turn the engine over by hand. The run a jumper cable from the batt+ to the starter motor. See if it will spin the engine. When you say stopped, do you mean it shut off and wound down, or it slammed to a stop? The former may be fuel or electric, but the latter is mechanical. With the belt to the blower slipped off the PTO and the PTO lever engaged, are you able to turn the engine or is it frozen? Do you get any reaction from turning the key? If you'be broken something on a Wheel Horse, somebody on the forum has fixed that same problem and will chime in with guidance. Falling snow and darkness means wait till morning to figure out which safety is blocking my power. RobMcC 5 #13 Posted February 20, 2021 The engine survived. I kind of rest all of the safeties and it turned over and it started right up. I moved it to the shed to warm up that snowblower before starting part 2. Blower chain looks like a crime scene... luckily I received a new one and 2 idler sprockets the day before I wrecked it. I hit a steel well casing with a push mower when I was maybe 12, that hard stop bent the crank and sheared the flywheel key my dad said as he fixed it back.
