have two 416-H's with Eaton 1100

one with around 1000 hours I've owned for around 20 years  - the other has around 500-600 hours  (? - owned just a couple years and not sure of the history of this tractor)

I push both fairly often - to the driveway from the garage or into the garage from the driveway

sometimes they are stubborn to push and click loudly - other times not as much ... does not appear to be consistent ... not positive - but I recall sometimes they are initially stubborn and then will push a little easier (?) after a few feet

I've been doing this for years - no issues - and this on the 1000 hour 416 that was (unfortunately) not serviced as often and well as it should have been (I stretched trans fluid changes too long - and for a while with a tunnel /  trans packed with grass clippings)

my original 416 is very slow in reverse - it has been like this since I got it around 20 years ago

reverse is much faster on the 416 I got a couple of years ago - at first I welcomed this but you gotta watch it ... you can get into trouble quickly with a fast reverse

Look for linkage obstructions (I had one built in on a 520). Then look carefully behind when reversing! :)

Amen

For just mowing and just about all activity, the "normal" reverse is good. I just wanted more power on the hill when using the FEL. About 600 lbs of add on weight plus the load.

If no big wear on the cam and plate is present,  I have jimmied with the adjustment and got a little more reverse. Just set the cam on neutral closer to the forward side. Can loose a little on the forward side. Kind of tricky though.

I probably should have added, Might not known that hydro was bad if I had level ground. After it heated, running it on the hill really made the problem show up. I have about a 200' stretch of pretty steep grade to mow and wide open at the top it would crawl. Then hit the flat and she would fill better!

From the Eaton manual

the 1100 I put in my gt14 can be pushed and you can hear the balls clacking in the pump until it is pushed quicker and then it locks. Stop it and let sit for a couple seconds and I can push it again. This transaxle came out of a 418-A. My other 418-A and 417-A both could be pushed the same way, same noise and same lock up.

Richie, does this lock up with the drive belt engaged or doesn't it matter on your 400 Series.     Thanks

Doesn’t matter. It locks when pushed faster than a slow roll. Belt engaged or disengaged.
