ebinmaine 68,887 #1 Posted February 17, 2021 The stack on Cinnamon Horse C160 seeps between the muffler and standpipe. Straight fit. No threads or flanges etc. Is there a high temp sealer that works for that??
WVHillbilly520H 10,374 #2 Posted February 17, 2021 , what's high temperature and seals to pieces of metal together, starts with a W... ... Sorry Eric I had too, they do make a muffler "joint" or patching compound I'm sure you had to have seen in your parts store days but it works about 50/50 if that. 2
rjg854 11,578 #3 Posted February 17, 2021 There is a orange colored silicone, made especially for sealing metal chimney sections, like Metalbestos. I'm not sure if would work for exhaust stacks/ mufflers.
DennisThornton 4,769 #4 Posted February 17, 2021 More than one. Sodium silicate base with a filler. Muffler/exhaust sealers. Some in a tube, some a tin. Some just add water powders. I've had good luck with minor leaks.

Did actually think about welding but the top piece is chrome and I didn't want to screw it up. Good reason to learn how to braze maybe? I've had about the same luck with the muffler sealers over the years....
Pullstart 63,204 #6 Posted February 17, 2021 What about a header wrap on the bottom portion after you weld/braze it?
squonk 41,648 #7 Posted February 17, 2021 (edited) The best exhaust sealer. Available at Napa $12.50 Love the warning that it's flammable. But it is the nuts! Edited February 17, 2021 by squonk 3
peter lena 8,877 #8 Posted February 17, 2021 was going to suggest a very thin rapping piece of s/s shim stock to firm up the gap , available at local h/w stores , pete 1

I don't promote my past employer of 22 years, much these days, as in "WALKER" which BTW is the only Walker/Tenneco "aftermarket" exhaust factory in the USA right here in VA. lynnmor 7,388 #17 Posted February 17, 2021 In PA they plug in to read any codes, check the gas cap and charge about $30. Even if you have the low mileage exemption, they still charge the same to slap on the exempt sticker. It is just a money grab backed by the Garagemens Association, the $30 tells you that your check engine light is on or off, but you already knew that.
pacer 3,174 #18 Posted February 17, 2021 State Inspections...hah! OH, we've got them here in La and if followed the criteria for passage is fairly extensive. Started out $5 a year for about 5yrs, then went to $10 for a 2 years for about 6-8 yrs, is now $20 for a 3yr sticker. I reach in the glove box for the registration & insurance, get my license and a $20 out, and go in and the guy fills in the book, grabs a new sticker & scraper, slaps it on and away I go. Good little source of money for the gummit............

Pullstart 63,204 #20 Posted February 17, 2021 I grew up being taught that punching out your cat will make power. Carbs are better than fuel injection. Rip off that computer. Roll coal. I now understand that tuning has come a long way. You can make clean power. Whod’a thunk? EB. Thought of another solution. High temp tape!

Working in the automotive exhaust field for 22 years, if the brick style "cat" ain't clogged it doesn't restrict flow much of any compared to the old pellets type.
Tractorhead 9,065 #24 Posted February 17, 2021 We have here a inspection every 2 years, they charge nearly 100€ with a check lite on, there is no chance of the roadsafety ticket. the complete roadsafety checkup is at nearly 150€ - On truck‘s this check is every year. Except are Oldtimers before the Cat Aera, if they get history status, they can be as they where in their manufacting time. No retrofit of a Cat is necessary, it can be made but isn‘t a must. another reason, i prefer old Cars. On external repairs they should also last a little timeline, i know just an oversizepipe over the original, if originalpipe is on a spot rotten. But my experience shows me also, there is rarely just one single spot, it‘s mostly larger.

And we are not allowed to have aftermarket exaust systems so to make it look stock and seal it up, i used cement sealer. After some high temp paint, it looked like stock and hasn't been leaking since. Edited February 17, 2021 by Maxwell-8
