6-0202 Snow Thrower on "modern" tractors

Hi all,

 

I'm new here and am hoping I'm not asking a redundant question.  I've hunted around quite a bit but don't find the answer I need.

 

I am a new owner of a Toro/Wheelhorse 312-h.  5112-keo (if memory serves). It's from around 1992.  With it is a Wheel Horse 6-0202 snow thrower.  When I attach it to the tractor (with the belt on the outer spindle) the belt rubs against the top of the frame (where the axle would be).  It seems wrong to me and I don't know if it's because the snow thrower is so old that it's not 100% compatible or perhaps that's the way it's supposed to be.

 

Any help will be appreciated.

Here is manual for 6-0202.  it is a tach matic compatible blower so it should fit your tractor .  Do you have the idler pulleys hooked correctly.  Picture in manual is hard to see it should look like my pictures

Thinking maybe a too long of a belt may cause the V idler pulley to hit the axle.

Wow, thank you all for the warm welcome & the info.

 

Here are a couple pics.  Hopefully they explain the situation better.  For all I know it's perfectly fine but...

 

These seem like great yard tractors with an obvious long history.

 

FTR, I purchased a NOS belt recently.  Came in yesterday & I'll be installing it this weekend.

Ahhh, I see that now!  So simple.  I'll reroute the new belt the correct way.  I'm glad it's something simple.

The belt also looks to be wrong. Its is sitting to deep in the pto and driven pulley. :wh:

It could be a wrong belt for sure.  I ordered a replacement based on the diagram in the manual so I'm pretty sure when I get the new one on it'll help the situation.

You may have to loosen and/or remove the 3 bolts for the bearing behind the driven pulley, to install the new belt.

Is the loop touching the pto bell? :wh:

Thanks for that insight regarding the three bolts. I'm afraid I'm not sure what you mean by the loop touching the pto bell. Apologies.

If I may ask one other question... there's a grease fitting on the auger shaft which seems to take endless grease. Is it filling up the entire shaft?

 

Any info is much appreciated.

I think the PTO "bell" being referred to is the arched metal rod mounted to the motor and frame that, when rotated, presses the PTO pulley against the motor to engage the PTO. Belts should never rub against it.

 

When you re-route your new correctly-sized belt onto the correct sides of the idler/tensioner it should keep the belt from rubbing on stuff.

 

No experience with blowers so it'll be for someone else to respond to the auger/grease question!

Ah, ok, I get it now.  That makes sense.  The belt is definitely not rubbing against the bell.  The PTO seems to engage very well and the thrower stops as soon as it hits a load.  Which leads me to believe that the wrong belt orientation plus the idea that the belt is wrong to begin with are my issues.  I was wondering why there seemed to be no load on the clutch spring... duh.

 

As far as the grease situation goes I just want to not mess anything up as I'm a newb to all this equipment.

The four bearings on the blower I never grease now, replace every 2 seasons.

The bell is the pto, the part the belt is on. It looks like a bell when it is on the bench.

The loop is the black vertical part. Looks like paint is missing on the bell from the loop rubbing. :wh:

Thanks much for the help.  I'll look into getting bearings.  I'll check in once I change the belt and adjust that chute loop cable.

Mine had similar behavior and it turned out to be the bar that adjusts the PTO tension when engaging the belt. take a look at the picture in this post:

 

 

that trunion spins. i gave mein about 4 turns closer to the driver's seat and now the belt will smoke before the blower stops
