I've also got a beat up 1952 and somewhere there is a picture of his Crown Vic with the plate on it. (those were 1949 though, close enough... Wonder how they got to Norway?) [edit: on closer look, they MIGHT be 1948?] Here's my set, they were on one of my FILs vehicles, don't know which one, at some point: Can't decide if I should wash the dirt off, and give them a flat clear coat or not... or 'restore' them all the way. Mickwhitt 4,593 #11 Posted February 15, 2021 Wow that is a whacky machine! We used to run slightly bigger Listers as the Donkey engine on our winter gritting trucks. They ran the conveyor belt and spinner head. PITA to work on, always covered in salt and crud. Electric start but had a valve lifter to let it get up to speed before you let the compression build up. I remember timing them involved putting a piece of thin lead wire on the piston crown and torquing the head down, turn over the engine by hand thus crushing the wire. Strip the head off and measure hiw thick the wire is. Then add or subract shims to lift or lower the head to the right clearance from the piston. Re torque and re test. Stepney 2,325 #17 Posted February 15, 2021 Friend of mine had a classic Columbia that had come off a farm, built in the 50's or so. Had an ancient B&S foot start engine and bits of a reel mower made up the drive system. It looked something like that, but even more scary in design. Lister D is no light engine either.. never quite understood the concept of a Lister gas engine, most were diesel. I don't think they were too common in comparison.
