haydendavid380 759 #1 Posted February 12, 2021 Spinner knobs in particular. Bigger tractors in these parts always seem to have them. I've seen them here and there on Wheel Horses, but they seem few on far between. How many of you guys run them and what are the pros/cons
Handy Don 12,237 #2 Posted February 12, 2021 (edited) Glad you clarified "spinner", lest our UK friends get the wrong impression! And are they rim-mounted or spoke-mounted? Edited February 12, 2021 by Handy Don
cschannuth 3,816 #3 Posted February 12, 2021 (edited) I have one on my 520 loader tractor and I love it and we also have them on all of our farm tractors. You just have to be careful putting them on a tractor without power steering because if your front tire gets caught on something and whips the steering wheel around that knob can really hurt if it catches your hand. roadapples 6,983 #5 Posted February 12, 2021 I never used them because I thought they would mar the steering wheel..

We have em on the Moffett forklifts at work. All hydro systems. They work well enough but they really do get in the way. I use them because it has a very small wheel and steering around it is a pita.
Maxwell-8 4,277 #7 Posted February 13, 2021 I see people putting it on big tractors. but small. toro but them stock on the GTM. I ain't a fan of them because i like a steering wheel to be as freely as possible therefore i don't like anything on my steering wheel.
Ed Kennell 38,227 #8 Posted February 13, 2021 IMO, a spinner is a necessity on my outboard powered boat where there is very little force required and I often make lock to lock spins when docking, loading and pulling crab pots. I never felt the need to have one on my tractors..
Pollack Pete 2,273 #9 Posted February 13, 2021 A D-180 I bought a couple yrs ago had one on it.I've never used the knob.I left it on just because I thought it was a pretty cool looking skull.I have a Michigan 125B loader with articulating steering that has a spinner knob on it.I've never used that one either.Rather have both hands on the wheel.
cschannuth 3,816 #10 Posted February 13, 2021 We find them invaluable on our loader tractors - big and small. One hand stays on the spinner knob and one on the joystick. When you can only have one hand on the wheel it provides excellent control.

Horse Newbie 7,075 #15 Posted February 13, 2021 I currently do not have one on my 1994 520H, and I probably wont install one... even though I have considered it. For a couple of reasons... 1. Don't want to marr the steering wheel. 2. I like the "clean look." 3. I have two yellow and white tractors that I will be using for all my intense tractor work. I don't see a need for one on my 520H, which I intend to treat very gentle when I use it. By the way...I don't have them on my two yellow and white "workers" either. WVHillbilly520H 10,373 #17 Posted February 13, 2021 The 315 I bought had a spinner knob on it seemed to work fine for mowing on the level, but it did leave marks in the over cushioned wheel.

I'll be glad to post pics under maybe a different topic... Not really much to see in my opinion... They are not the older IH Cubs ( my uncle had an IH Cub, 1960's), that I loved but unfortunately my aunt sold after his passing. I wish I had that ! One of mine is probably a late 90's hydro(Kohler twin) and the other is like a 2003 hydro(big box store, B & S twin). At least they both have bolt on rear wheels and are attachment capable... They both have been very reliable and dependable for what I used them for... I will take some pics and post them in a couple of days
stevasaurus 22,764 #20 Posted February 13, 2021 They have always been referred to as "suicide knobs" around here. I used to see them in cars that did not have power steering back in the 60s. I think they are illegal in road vehicles now. 5

Yeah, I have seen on here that you have a history with CC's and I seen where you are helping your son with a little CC project now... Mickwhitt 4,642 #22 Posted February 13, 2021 There seem to be a lot of knobs on quad bikes over here. And not on the steering neither.

Was there a particular reason why you superceded 200.46 and just flew right up to 200.47?
