Oldcpecdr 255 #1 Posted February 12, 2021 Morning all Every day I peruse various WH ads for something I can't live without. I can see HOW they do this front mount can you tell me why ? Golf greens or similar ? Seems a little cumbersome for everyday mowing on a real world lawn. Mike B
pfrederi 17,674 #2 Posted February 12, 2021 (edited) I have one with a 42" deck. Not really good for normal yards. (I think the Queen Mary has a tighter turning circle ) However great for getting under low hanging trees, cutting walking paths in tall grass. (It is cut before you get to it (also helps reduce exposure to ticks.) Edited February 12, 2021 by pfrederi
Racinbob 11,045 #3 Posted February 12, 2021 I have never used one but it sure would be handy around here. Does it make the steering difficult?
bc.gold 3,403 #4 Posted February 12, 2021 My Toro Reelmaster with front mounted mowers steers from the rear and will turn on a dime.
oilwell1415 563 #5 Posted February 12, 2021 Other than getting under trees and the other stuff mentioned, I suspect it's a lot easier to install, remove and clean the deck with it up there.
pfrederi 17,674 #6 Posted February 12, 2021 Does not make the steering difficult just takes big turns. You can mount a 48 or 42" SD> I went with the 42 because that one you can pull two pins abs tilt up and back for cleaning...
c-series don 8,669 #7 Posted February 13, 2021 I also hear that storage for the front mount mower takes up quite a bit of room.
KAA 1973 71 #8 Posted February 13, 2021 My old neighbor always wanted a front mount, he complained the front wheels push the grass down and it didn’t come back up fast enough to mow it evenly, leaving the wheel marks that was higher than the rest of the grass. But he was retired and didn’t have much to do. He had a smaller Simplicity and removed the deck and cleaned it after every mowing. That thing was like 10 years old and looked like the day he bought it.
Oldcpecdr 255 #9 Posted February 13, 2021 Thanks for the feedback.... that would take up a lot of real estate in the shop. However the deck looks in really nice shape, I am thinking it is probably just a regular deck mounted on that suspended cradle..hmmm maybe I should go get it. 8ntruck 6,991 #10 Posted February 13, 2021 I think a front mount mower would make inside corners easier to mow.
Oldcpecdr 255 #11 Posted February 13, 2021 Just took another look, turns out I should have looked at the other pictures, for sale is the front CRADLE for a deck. Aside from the maintenance ease it would be hard to actually use one of these on my hilly lawn. Mike B
