haydendavid380 759 #1 Posted February 12, 2021 Are there detailed instructions on installing one that previously hasn't had one? Is everything included in the kit from Lowell?
R Scheer 502 #2 Posted February 12, 2021 That looks like everyghing, the kit I bought from Lowell had everything I needed. I believe you have to specify hydro vs manual, the tube the cable runs in is different.

If you don't, are they unable to use them? Where I assume the cross piece goes theres small pin holes, almost like marking a spot to drill, but certainly nothing big enough to drop parts right in. gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,033 #7 Posted February 12, 2021 Looks like they became available in 1976. Garry
Blackhood Bill 721 #8 Posted February 12, 2021 @haydendavid380 Inhave purchased one from Lowell. Amazing piece. Very simple to install. But as stated above there is a different tube for a hydro versus a geared machine. Yes there is a hole already there for the cable to slide thru predrilled. I don’t remember if it came with instructions. I’m some of us here could take a picture or two if you needed it.

squonk 41,038 #11 Posted February 12, 2021 Download the file Gary posted. You will see the holes needed. If your tractor is Pre 76 I don't think that kit works but I may be wrong. I wanted to put one on my 76 C-160 but my rear bracket was different like yours

I could have sworn I've seen slot hitches on early tractors
pfrederi 17,674 #13 Posted February 13, 2021 They used just a cable from the tractor lift arm through the tube over the tranny.
pfrederi 17,674 #14 Posted February 13, 2021 (edited) 8-5511 and 8-5521 are slot and clevis examples https://www.wheelhorseforum.com/search/?q=8-5511&quick=1&type=downloads_file&nodes=21 https://www.wheelhorseforum.com/files/file/2306-hitch-rear-slot-1969-1975-implement-8-5521-om-ipl-dnapdf/ Edited February 13, 2021 by pfrederi
haydendavid380 759 #15 Posted February 14, 2021 Thank you! So if I'm reading that right, all I need is this? There should be a tunnel or tube on my tractor right?
haydendavid380 759 #16 Posted February 14, 2021 I'll be darned, I've looked for that tube multiple times but there she is.

Looks like you'll have a bit of a task clearing out the tube! There is some debate among members on lubrication in there. Some like good grease but others think it attracts/retains dirt that causes wear in this very exposed location so they use no lubrication. Some think graphite is the way to go. My cable is plastic coated and self-lubricating (way to sidestep the debate, eh? ). All up to you!
