Glad it was a simple fix. You S/G belt should be a raw rubber edge belt, not the fabric wrapped belts that are found at hardware stores.

Might not be a bad idea once the weather changes to take the genny off and clean the carbunkles out of it and check the brushes. They stick, get dirty and don't produce the oomph to turn the motor. Sometimes the genny itself will squeal as it struggles to turn.

@Ed Kennell or @oliver2-44 do you guys use. Permatex when putting the gaskets back on. I’m waiting for my new ones to deliver but was thinking I should...?

For the valve spring cover I usually used new thicker Kohler gaskets with no sealer and have good success.  Sometimes If I have what seems to be a thinner aftermarket gasket or reusing  Gasket I  use Coppercoat. Not sure it's better or worse that others, I just use it as it's always what my dad used on airplanes.  My dad always used Coppercoat on airplanes and Permatex on the farm tractor and truck, so there all good.
