Ready for the ice storm

Recommended Posts

The Tuul Crib

Went out to the street took a picture of the crib before the storm! there is a ice storm warning for middle Tennessee . A quarter inch as expected !Sure hope we don't lose power because I don't have a wheel horse generator! :angry-tappingfoot:So I'm relying on battery power for the flashlights. Sure hope we make it through this one!

With an ice storm like that I hope that you don't have to travel tomorrow. Snow is easy to drive on, ice not so much. Be safe Cribs, hope you remembered to get that water that your wife asked for.:)

Well Jim I do feel a little haunted these days! We do hear some strange noises about the house especially during an ice storm!

I have a scale of mother natures presents that scare me. In descending order, tornadoes, ice storms and hurricanes. I have experienced all three and I hope you fair well.  Days after a bad ice storm  the clean up is dangerous and taxing on the spirits. Good Luck JimAnderson

Thanks Jim! Greatly appreciate here buddy! We survived the ice storm of 1993 here and I built some nice pieces of furniture from the aftermath of the year!

hope to get some pictures of the storm Should it go as predicted!

Well, sounds like you're pretty well prepared, assuming you have enough firewood stacked for if the power goes out!

We're expecting some snow/ice (We'll see if it happens or not) later this week, and the low for Monday is 8 degrees. 8! I'm not sure I've ever experienced that cold. 48 is bad enough.

I have my Champion 12kw generator and can have it in service in about 20 minutes if need be.. I've been procrastinating getting it operational since I bought it, as it needed a starter. Champion claims to make their own engines, and said the starter was proprietary and wasn't common to other engines.. They wanted $259 + tax and shipping for the dinky little thing. A couple days ago I got on Google, and typed in V-twin starter. The 3rd hit was a picture of one for a Predator that looked identical, down to the casting lines for $79. Looked a little more and found one for a Honda that also looked identical for $49. One-day'd the Honda starter from Amazon and it bolted right on and works great! I just need to change the oil now.

Good luck with the storm!

Praying you all don't get it bad. Just remember if you use a generator, wire it correctly so there is no backfeed, protect those lineman that are working very hard in bad conditions to get you back on line. Also the fumes from those generators, we all know what it can do. Stay safe and try to be patient with those lineworkers, I have been there and they are working very hard and many of them won't have power at home either.Stay safe and work together. The things we take for granted on a daily basis... running water, heat, lights, food in the pantry and fridge... and the people who make it all possible!

We keep getting a little more accumulation every day here...things started freezing up Sunday, and with next Friday being the first day above freezing in the forecast it doesn’t look like relief is in sight for a while. Stay safe over there. Ice storms can be nasty, we went through one about 4 years ago that was the worst I remember around here.

On a side note, though it causes problems and wreaks havoc on the roads and power grids, it does make a beautiful sight when you walk outside. Took this picture of the old Case this morning before heading to work

Glad you don't have to get out in it! We're expecting 5 inches of snow on Sunday, and another inch or two on Monday... and the low for Monday is now forecasted to be 0!

Something that's common up here so we're well equipped to deal with it. Doubtful down in your area so it can cripple the whole works for everything. Just watch out for the bad drivers if you have to go out. They still smash their cars up here every storm so I can only imagine when they don't have the experience and on bald tires.

Ice storms can really create havoc. The last big one here ripped the power lines right off the house to the meter. Power was out in the whole area for over 2 weeks so it wasn't so dangerous. That was the inspiration to build a back hoe to put the utilities underground. That and the fact they wanted 5K just to dig the trench!

Tell me about it... There was a 100+ car pileup on I-35 this morning. I think the death toll is 5 last I heard, but I'm not sure if that's current. I know they were having a hell of a time getting first responders to the scene because of traffic. Lots of people trapped in cars. Not a good thing... Y'all might even hear about it on the news up there.
