It's more expensive as it is not as commen at the the 2" receiver. There is one on the back of my Ford Explorer it's raited at 3500 Lbs. It would be more then enought for a Wheel Horse but most of us have hitches to fit the 2". Thanks Lee, that's interesting. I wonder why Ford didn't use the 2" standard...I assume it would be stronger? Probably best for me to use 2" for implement compatability. I'll report back when I get sorted, but it won't be for a while yet as I'm currently rebuilding my 5xi quiet collector.
Lee1977 6,673 #27 Posted August 4, 2023 They offer a tow package with 2" receiver, oil cooler on transmission, and electric brake unit. I found this at a Ford dealer in the eastern part of North Carolina that had everything I wanted. and didn't have the expenive stuff I didn't need.. Would have like to have the tow package if only for the trans .oil cooler. It's a 2010 model with full truck type frame and rear wheel drive. The Explorers in 2011 were unitibody with front wheel drive.

The Range Rover L322 has one as standard and interestingly, it is water cooled/heated rather than air-cooled. This allows for faster gearbox warm up and maintains constant temperature rather than just 'cooling' as such. My guess is that the Explorer will be similar? (Range Rover has a ZF 5HP or 6HP***** gearbox).

Probably not strong enough to push the limits of the winch, but good enough for everything I've used it for so far. I now have a mental image of your tractor hurtling through the air on the end of a sturdy winch hawser!
