On the other hand Northern New England and in the Maritime storms come here to die. An Atlantic block can stop a storm overhead for several day's before allowing it to depart.

 

If you want to see how much damage freezing rain & drizzle can cause look up Ice Storm of 1998.

Two storms came back to back and stalled over Quebec & New England. Ice on tree branches 2" in Diameter, utility poles & steel transition towers fell to the ground.

Was working for the power co. at the time. many weeks of 16hr. day's.  

I've only been in Maine for a little over 20 years so I missed out on that infamous storm. 

 

I've heard many many stories from different people over the years.

 

I've seen quite a few ice storms layout 1/8". 1/4". Even a couple that were half inch thick ice. 

 

Incredibly beautiful and incredibly destructive.

-2C this morning here. Chill factor -9C. It'll suit me to sat this way for a day or two. Ground is nice and hard and I'll be able to get back to a tree I felled a couple of weeks back.

Yep. Sounds ghoulish but someone has to clean up the mess! (I once heard a janitor at our office complaining as he picked up the full wastebasket at my workstation. Asked him he thought he'd still have a job if there weren't any for him to empty? Strangely, he didn't take offense as I realized I'd been pretty rude. We chatted often after that.)

I am in full accord with @Mickwhitt's sergeant--collisions, crashes, same difference--that true no-faults are exceedingly rare.
