312-h spindles

I have a new to me, a 1991 312-h model 51-12KE01, that has 6" front wheels. The spindles need replacing.

On Toro's parts list, front spindles have the following numbers for the RH as 113380 and 113379. The left side has 113382 and 113381.

 

My 1989, 414-8, model 31-14K804 has the same part numbers for spindles but has 8" front wheels. The spindles are shorter, please see pictures.

 

The 312-h axle hole for the spindle is very good, no play with a .750 rod inserted; all the wear is on the hub side of the spindles from bad bearings.

What is the correct spindle part number for the 6" front wheels on the 312-h? What is the difference in the part numbers? Spindle length?

 

What would happen to the 312-h if I use the 6" wheels with shorter spindles? Is this advisable?

 

I would like to use the shorter spindles and upgrade the 6" wheels to 8". Are used 8" wheels available?

 

My 414-8 came with a 37" SD deck, short spindles, 8" wheels, and the tires do not rub the deck.

The 312 uses the shorter spindles when they have 8" tires on them.  The shorter spindles keep the tractor level with the larger 8" tires.

Many here have upgraded to the 8" wheels and short spindles. Put a request in our want adds. Should be reasonably  priced...

It appears by the picture the 113381 and 82 are the short ones and more $ than the longer ones

I have 16x6.50-8 tires and wheels on my 310 with the longer spindles.

 

It not that big of difference because the 310 and 312 with 6" wheels use 15" tires, so have of that is only a 1/2".

 

Just find some 16x6.50-8 tires and wheels and go for it. Call A-Z parts, he is a vendor on here and a good guy. He might have everything you need. Unless your spindles are really bad, just put new bearings in them and run em. Not really a big deal at the slow speeds they run at.

Don't sweat the part numbers David. 

Spindles will fit over a VERY broad range and the part numbers may not all be the same. 

I'll second the CALL to A to Z tractor. 

 

He'll likely have all you need at great prices.  

Note I highlighted CALL. 

When I buy from him I ALWAYS call. He's pretty busy and often has things on hand that aren't listed on the website.

I also have a 312-8 with 8" wheels and the longer spindles  (pictured below) 

 

the tractor is lifted approx 1/2 inch in the front - and easy to lower the front of the deck if you desire

I just did exactly that, shorter spindles with eight inch wheels. Yes, A-Z has some in stock.

I changed mine because the originals were sloppy and twisted. Plus I run a Snowthrower and little 6” wheels wouldn’t do so well......There are some differences tho’, hold the front wheel with clips, cotter pins or bolts?

After all that they were all listed as LH. Found another parts list where it was correct.

One more vote for eight inch front wheels and sourcing parts from Lincoln at https://a-ztractor.com/. I replaced the six inch set-up on my 310-8 with the eight inch wheels and short spindles and find the it giver a smoother ride.

Unfortunately the PO or owners, did not subscribe to that philosophy!😢 Its amazing how much abuse these tractors can take and still run.
