Watched a lot of them just need practice and more patience is all.  The welds are strong with good penetration just bumpy and ugly.

Just due to the fact that you already know what you need to do tells me you'll figure it out.

Lincoln 220V mig setup with argon mix. I have made a few really nice beads so its coming.  

 

Finished this thing today and its so strong its totally ridiculous. I bet I could put a 2’ piece of square tube in there and put 1000lbs on the end and the front wheel sof the tractor would pop right off the ground. Total overkill. Zero flex in it with my 230 lbs on it bouncing up and down. Pretty happy with it aside from my welding haha. 

 

Makes me think I need a rear bumper/step to put in it, weight rack and weights, maybe a work box to have on in summer months, lawn roller, what else am I missing?

Nice!  And yes, probably overkill but it's one thing you won't have to worry about ever.  As soon as I build mine this or similar is going on it.

Thanks! I like that Dennis though might be too big for where I end up running this thing. Might want higher sids too and a solid floor to keep the stuff from bouncing out. Either way you have options

Can you believe how big it is compared to the factory unit?  Haha. Had to move my tail light to the hitch to keep it safe. 

New painters fear running the paint.  I recommend running the paint and then back off.  Serious, the best paint job is where ALL of it is JUST about to slide off!

Same with new welders.  If you don't burn through from time to time your amperage isn't high enough.

 

After practicing pushing the edge your paint won't run anymore and your welds won't go through.  But in the beginning burn through something!  Test piece perhaps?

Yeah, it's too wide as is.  I've already got it but rather than cut it down I'll most likely make something more suitable.  I mounted a luggage rack on my C-85 blackhood.  Rough anyway so it didn't cause tears.  But the rack gets used a lot for light stuff.  I'd like something for 5 gal buckets for the rear.  Not sure where I loose steering but surely I could haul 2 sideways.

Seriously though, can you tell if the additional up front helps?  I have several rears but no fronts.

On my plow tractor along with roller chains yes they do help keep me on the straight and narrow while plowing.

Reminds me.  Think I just remembered where my #40 repair links are.

Thanks for the feedback.  I hate not being able to steer.  I did without brakes on my snowplow tractor for years.  Just fixed it and I keep forgetting to use them!  Really need steering at least when you can't stop with the blade down.  Doesn't help that the new to me Bolens and the C-85 are my snow plow tractors and the Bolens has a combo clutch break on the left and or course you know how the WHs are.

Do a Google search for something like 2-in hitch implements...

 

Overkill. Well I mean I guess you don't want to be hanging enough steel out there to build a battleship from but having a great strong hitch to connect to could hardly be called Overkill...

That is some absolutely excellent advice there.

The worst welds I ever saw weren't from burning or blowing through but from half melted rod piled on top of layer after layer thinking that if you got enough it would hold.  Might as well have used drywall compound!  Welding needs melting some of the base metal.

I just need patience is all. I’m busy so always in a rush sadly but like to get stuff done so I rush.  Working on it lol. 

 

I understand the science and technique and I get good penetration. I see a lot worse with paint on it too so not worried. It’s a tractor!  I can imagine myself as a better welder looking at old projects/welds though later in life and cringing.  Haha

You have #40 roller chains around your fronts?  Put them on deflated and pump up until tight?  Been thinking about that- plow pushes front sideways sometimes.  

 

Slick setup you have there- looks like its way too far out but now that I have this hitch I know that it could handle that.  Crazy strong

A huge hurdle to success is the fear of failure!  Sometime on some project just spray nothing but runs!  Blowup and burn through every weld!  Get it over with.  I'd say that someone who has never shot a run or burned through hasn't learned how to paint or weld.  Perfection is just a touch less than total failure!  Learn how to fail!  And then back off a little bit!

 

And yes, practice really does help with everything!  But so does failure!  And knowing why!  Push until you fail and watch and learn.

It's a combination of things that make it do that. The 2" receiver goes into the slot hitch and then the deck goes into the receiver. It's made for an atv, but I cut it down to the width of the tractor.

 

I use it to take my recycling bins down to the highway, trash on trash day, and retrieving packages that come in the mail, for now. It's rated for 500lbs. It's easier and quicker than having to hook up the tub trailer each time. I can leave it on the tractor and it doesn't take up much room.

This is something I made up years ago for the clevis hitch, let go with the xi I sold a few years back.
