Navig8r 132 #1 Posted February 2, 2021 Anyone else have trouble with the lift rod breaking pins where it attaches to the blower? Dont use mine often, but I keep having trouble with the cotter/hairpin breaking and then the bar drops off the pin, and then of course off the flag.... dropping all the washers in the snow in the process! Got lucky today, found all the washers Any suggestions? TIA!

lynnmor 7,302 #3 Posted February 2, 2021 Download the proper owners manual and look at the drawings. Do you have the bar upside down? Does it have the correct bends? Is it adjusted so that it lifts the correct amount and not too high?

I'll pay more attention to what I put in there when I put it back together in a bit. Thank you!

Ed Kennell 38,028 #6 Posted February 2, 2021 When I was still using snow blowers, I drilled my pin hole open to 1/4" and replaced the cotter pin with a 1/4" Allen head bolt and a Nylock nut. 3
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,033 #7 Posted February 2, 2021 Common problem. I think what happens is the hole rusts up and so a smaller cotter pin gets selected because it will easily go in. One needs to drill the rust out. A 5/8" SAE flat washer has a smaller hole in it than a 5/8" USS flat washer which increases the shear strength of the cotter pin. Navig8r 132 #8 Posted February 2, 2021 Gonna say my washer is probably wrong.... Small amount of slop on it... Back together with the existing one, and removed a washer from the flag . Back up and running for now. Thanks for the input and info everyone!!!
