Ed729 57 #1 Posted February 2, 2021 Hi all, Working on a restoration on my 312-8. It’s been in my family since new but has been outside for a few years and needs some work. I’m hoping to get things fixed and use it for yard work and getting firewood out of the woods. I’m sure I will have questions as I go. Thanks 6

AmishMenno 3 #16 Posted May 13, 2021 I'm new to this forum. I bought a nice 312-8 fall of 2020 and am very happy with it. I used it to haul chainsaw and bring wood out of the woods last fall. I installed the deck today and decided to mow grass. I like the way it cuts and will be using it more. I have a question: Does anyone know if a stainless steel exhaust pipe is available to connect to end of muffler so I can have an upright stack.? Maybe two feet or so? I would just be for looks. Oh, I need a replacement shock to hold seat up while filling the gas tank. Do you all advise to use leaded gas or unleaded in my Kohler engine? Thank You, 1
WHX?? 49,100 #17 Posted May 13, 2021 (edited) Amish.... fine lookin steed ther and a worthy workin tractor. You'll haul alot of wood with her you treat her right. On the stack I have never done one with that type of muffler but be wary of what you wish for as stack exhausts and low hanging branches as working in the woods do not play well. Hopefully others will be along to offer advise and welcome. Edited May 13, 2021 by WHX24
oliver2-44 9,831 #18 Posted May 13, 2021 We recommend you use ethanol free regular gas.
AmishMenno 3 #19 Posted May 29, 2021 I put my mower deck on this week, as I was mowing the mower clutch would stop and the belt to the mower stop? When I engage the clutch lever the mower would begin running again. What do you think is the problem.
953 nut 55,697 #20 Posted May 29, 2021 You may just need to turn the PTO adjustment trunnion a bit to let the PTO lever go further over center.
Ed Kennell 38,578 #21 Posted May 29, 2021 , But you should pull the pulley bell off and make sure the clutch plate and liner are OK.

AmishMenno 3 #23 Posted May 30, 2021 Thanks, I will check that. But? The mower ran full RPM the last time I had installed it and I did not make any adjustments. I just removed it and reinstalled it. Does the tension on the belt have any effect? I have tried tighter and looser but did not seem to make difference? It seems if the PTO is engaged the pulley should run the belts at proper speeds. Another dumb question I guess but what is the main function of the little adjustment for the tall lever letting the deck up and down? The grass height is set entirely by the lever on the deck. Right? I don't know how to pull it off but will see if I can check that before mowing again.

Loosen the mule drive and then remove the deck belt from the bell. Remove the brake pad bracket...two bolts. The bell will slide right off
