Winter Storm Orlena!

Shot a video today clearing the remnants of Orlena. Storm has moved east, but we still have some lake effect snow coming down. This was the 2nd time clearing the entire driveway and the 3rd time clearing the pass just to the left of my truck.

 

 This storm spans a huge part of the U.S. Let's see your pics / vids.

i plowed today got 8 inches heavy wet stuff but didn't get any pics it was spitting rain as i finished . even got my snowmobile out after it sat for 5 years and took a rip on it 

my neighbor had his p.o.s.  cub cadet / Murry out with 2 stage blower it sure no wheel horse.  

i got a little carried away have gravel drive way will be racking gravel out of yard in the spring

6-7" wet heavy stuff, just had to try out the new toys, probably should have used the plow/blade instead of the blower but what heck...

I have yet to replace the bearings on my WH snow blower, but my off-brand plow is doing a good job keeping our road clear.  The tractor is a 1970 Raider 12.

From what I can see right now it appears to be 3-4" so far.  The heavier accums are supposed to be this evening.  Might change to rain for a time this afternoon.

They can't seem to make up their minds for us.  Too close to the ocean and possible variations are huge.  We're less than 10 miles from ocean.

 

That's what happens here in NJ, the rain/snow line is very pronounced.  In the 70s I worked in Asbury Park and lived in Red Bank, about 10 miles north.  I left work at 11 PM one night with just a trace of snow on the ground.  By the time I got to Red Bank there was a FOOT of snow!  Barely got the old Pontiac home!

 

Snow started yesterday a little before noon, temp was about 26.  Snowed lightly all day and night amounting to about 4" or so by 7 AM.  

 

Right now it's really coming down hard, wind about 20-30 MPH, temp is rising and around 31 as I type.  Snow getting wetter.  I should probably clear what's out there now as they think the heavier accumulation will be this afternoon and evening.

Finally plowed with my 310-8 and man does it push.  Waxed the blade and it did a great job.  Need to work on a better pattern for plowing to make it more efficient (driveway has a circle and 3 legs) but the tool more than did the job.

You'll find as you use it more and more that preferences will develop.

Trina and I started experimenting with plows two years ago but last year really got into it as often as possible. This year? Not much for snow. Today....

 

You'll discover things like how many rows you can push sideways before you have to push straight. How far off the beaten path you have to pile the snow. What direction is better. Stuff like that.

 

We have a couple places in our yard that have slight hills to them and I'm terribly bullheaded so I get stuck at some point almost every year even though I know damn well I shouldn't be in those places.

So watching the news about where they got 10 inches and complaining about cars in the ditch and moving sno. I thought those people need to stay off the roads in this and get a !

One of things with plowing is getting it pushed back far enough early season to have room for more. Especially in big snow country. No problem with a truck but hard to stack it with a GT. 

Was always one of my problems in years past. One of the reasons  I went to blowing.

Yeah some, as my radiator is up front and the fan draws air through to the operator's station (especially those hot summer days mowing) I never got cold nor did I wear gloves while driving/operating the blower. Those top vents and loose fitting bottom keeps plenty of fresh air moving about while in motion. Very happy with this cab and price point.

It's changed over to mostly rain here.  That's on top of about 5-6" of powder.  They expect change back to all snow later today.

 

Had to take smaller 'slices' with the plow angled and run at 45° to the driveway, the snow was VERY wet and heavy.  I REALLY need a foot pedal for the hydro!  Running at the angle one needs to hold the wheel much more tightly.  I wish I was a 'mutie' with three arms and hands!

 

Went out around 9 AM plowed my driveway and neighbors.  My PVC skids mostly stayed in place but twice one was ready to fall off and needed a boot up it's azz to put it back where it belonged.  I didn't get around to the idea we had for securing them yet.

 

Twice I had to head back to the shop and run my heat gun on the intake manifold and carb.  It was icing up to the point that it almost stalled.  I need to look into the modification to the air cleaner to duct some warm air off the engine to prevent the icing.  WH had a 'kit' years ago for this, with a summer / winter flapper valve.  Of course it's NLA.  It wasn't for the models with the 'teardrop' air cleaner though but I can find a way to make it work.  I have a few ideas.

 

A snow cab would be really nice!

 

The walk behind blower with the added rubber pieces (of my old front tires from the tractor) performed VERY WELL!  Adding those rubber pieces is da nutz!  See YouTube videos for numerous examples of this simple modification.  Before I would not have gotten 5' before the chute clogged.  After, it was throwing the wet snow a good 20'.  I'm very happy with the result!

 

Got done just before lunch.  The boss didn't even know I was gone.

Has let up currently after almost 24 hours only 7-8 inches...however supposed to pick up later add a foot and 20mph winds.  My snow horses are resting.  We do like to move the same snowflake twice

@Jeff-C175 do you have a pic of your flaps?  Interested.

 

@whx24 I have a great simplicity blower but its a lot of work (long time on the feet) for a big driveway plus I have some areas that are wide so end up blowing it 2x which is no good.  This tractor is the cats ass and for the little snow we normally get I am much happier plowing.  For this storm though I was thinking I could run it around the perimeter when I am done if need be.  Going to be 40 and raining here fri so not worried.
