bc.gold 3,403 #1 Posted January 30, 2021 (edited) Dodge Ram won't turn over when it's extremely cold outside but starts when the outside temperature rises a couple of degrees , finally this morning figured out the problem. I believe the plunger inside he starter solenoid has a coating of dirt and oil a grease like layer that stiffens up in sub zero temperatures making it impossible to advance to where an electrical connection would be made. In warmer temps the starter has plenty of snap. Edited January 31, 2021 by bcgold
peter lena 8,583 #2 Posted January 31, 2021 BCGOLD, try this electrical based low temp aerosol , on that solenoid area, https://www.amazon.com/CRC-Electrical-Silicone-Lubricant-Aerosol/dp/B000LNPZXS, probably easily found in your area , verify its low temp function and use , that combo of dirt oil and grease , is like glue , you want a clean slick related slide, I would pull the starter , and lubricate any and all movement points , pete

Other problem points, starter relay in fuse box under the hood, neutral switch located on transmission, ignition switch, started solenoid contacts which you can purchase a repair kit for.

bc.gold 3,403 #5 Posted February 19, 2021 Went out this morning to test start the Dodge Ram, the cleaner I sprayed into the ignition switch froze the lock tumblers, heat the key and got it inserted but the switch is frozen and won't turn. Now to go and buy some deicer. On a positive note, the cat is shedding her winter coat so spring must be near.
