Why I don’t throw much away...

Recommended Posts

Pullstart

I’ve got stuff everywhere.  Some was inherited when we bought the place, some came with us.

I came into some long slabs of wood, weathered and warped.  I grabbed the old rack and boy does it make firewood easy!

The old 18” 450 Husky makes it easier!

My BBT is funny.

Extra tractor parts. Oddball pieces of metal. rods and linkages. Sheet metal. Anything odd like that if I want to throw it away she don't care.

You put your hands on a piece of scrap Lumber? No no no no no. Don't throw that away! I can use that for something.

I know it could be used, but wood is my primary heat source.  That makes it pretty valuable to me.  I have used plenty of firewood for various things around the house too... I’ll probably stash some of this for bird houses too.

Have her come on over here, I've got stack of various types of wood and plywood, that I've been saving, thinking one day I might have a use for it. Probably the only time I'll need it is after I get rid of it. :ychain:

I tossed a bunch of scrap lumber this fall. I also saved some. The pile looks like I never touched it!

Is that ever true. I had a 48" tall x 24" diameter cardboard barrel that I would throw pieces of wood into from my wood working shop. I too thought that someday I'd find a use for it. So it sat in the barrel from around 2002, moving from storage location to storage location. Finally in September of 2020, when I was making the final move of equipment and "junk" into the new pole shed, I told my son-in-law to take it and burn it in his fire pit. That he did. Then just like clockwork I needed a 1/2" thick piece of red cedar to fix a bluebird house. I knew I had a piece in the barrel.............

I like to keep a stash of wood and metal ... cement blocks and brick ...  just in case

often will grab a few pieces of marked down wood when I'm at the local Home Depot

My father built three duplexes with a lot of used material - including used cement block and majority of the wood etc

he did this in the late 60's and 70's - on the side -  he would work on them on weekday evenings and weekends  ... took him approx four years to complete each building

he / we would remove the materials from houses that were to be leveled for highway or other construction and transport the materials to the property where he built the duplexes

I chipped a lot of mortar from cement block and removed a lot of nails from wood

I intercepted a Roasting pan my wife attempted to throw away. I thought it was good to hold scrap until I decided on it's ultimate use and I did as the photo shows
