Piece of heater hose around the shaft? Yes exactly that...it moved to slow for me and that ads to the dia of rod..plus it doesnt wear cable as fast. Yu cant see but i modifed the auger blade too. Now i can even blow wet snow especially....in fact i can even blow water haha...but best off thos single stage blowes reg snow 3 times as far tooo! Haven't had a chance to use it with those in place yet By the way... I DID use it with the paddles on some slushy snow late last winter and it did indeed make a HUGE difference! Like night and day... HOWEVER! At one point the impeller (not the auger) just up and stopped turning. Both of the spirol pins sheared. I suspect that the extra load on the pins caused this. I put new pins in and finished the job but time will tell if they shear again this winter.

I've got another thread going now that I'm working on a blower just like yours so I'm open to ideas. Maybe I should link the two threads? Yes thats where i put the paddles...i cut them out pf a worn out car tire. Absolutly rocks ...more then doubled throwing distance at all rpm's. I do have another idea...remember the kids had silly carpets for toboganing? Well im going to pull the shoot off separate both peices of the shoot and line the inside with the thin silly carpets. Idea is snow wont stick to and eventually plug the shute???

Idea is snow wont stick to and eventually plug the shute I've seen snowblowers lined with a plastic of some sort. Supposed to accomplish what you're thinking. Also seen snow plow liners/face plates/covers marketed the same way. Likely along the same line of thought. I do know the Maine DOT has a bunch of both metal and (plastic??) Plows in use.

Kinda thick though... I do still have some old tires though...
Jeff-C175 7,199 #57 Posted October 7, 2021 One more pic to close out the mods to the plow blade: This is the RubberCal 1/2" thick plow edge installed. I probably won't get to use this since I finished the blower!
