You have to have the biggest widest tallest thinnest fattest smallest shortest most extreme of everything possible or it just isn't worth anything at all.

Unfortunately that is so true

I should probably put a disclaimer here because to be completely honest with you all I was A little reluctant when I found out that the first Wheelhorse I was looking at was only 8 horsepower but in my particular case I was looking for the physical weight in pounds, not power so I went for it anyways.

I can't even begin to tell you how extremely glad I am that I did that.

As for power/gearing- I have a 655 for sale and you wouldnt believe how many folks said 'no thanks' when they found out its 'only' 6hp.

My keeper 655 'lil booger' impresses me more every time I use it.  People get too hung up on big power, which is not always needed......

Aint that the truth. I love my little Commando 8, with it's short frame and 8 HP Kohler. I put an 6-speed in it just cause I happen to have the right transmission fall in my lap (not literally, thank god).

I tried pulling a bush out of my front yard with it. I lost traction before the motor bogged down.

This is Patriot Horse B80 back when it had the heavy tires and wheel weights.

Tractor weight at this point was probably about 950 lb.

I ran it without chains because I wanted the so-called weak link to be the lack of traction and even then you can see what it was capable of without much effort...

That is sadly the state of almost every market in the country right now.  You can't even buy a real truck any more.  They are so hung up on horsepower that they forget what makes a truck work, so now we've got every truck on the market available with 400+ hp and most of them don't have enough torque to move their own weight without a bunch of gear.  The 5.0 in my truck makes 375hp, but without it's 10 speed transmission with a 4.7:1 first gear it wouldn't be able to do anything.  It hunts for gears so much it ridiculous.  There's a hill by my house that I hit at 45 mph in my old truck and I just go up it in 5th gear easily with no downshift required.  In the new "more" powerful truck it downshifts from 10th gear to probably 5th or 6th, which would be like dropping to third in my old truck.

Is that something that would have been a diesel originally? Would that engine have had a lot more torque or not really?

It vert well could have had an inline 6 gas engine too. Probably not a whole lot of hp out that either. I’m glad you liked the Ted Nugent   pun.

Love the idea, but enclosing some things would make it much 'safer'.

24 HORSE POWER!  46" MOWER DECK!

What the heck is all that "HORSE POWER" for!

A friend whose family was in business selling outdoor products for decades said that was a "Feature with NO benefit other than helping to sell it!"

We all know that bigger is better and that more is even more better!

LOVE my 8 HP Wheel Horses!  My main goto tractor has for years been a 8hp 8spd with a dozer blade.  Starts every time!  Pushes snow in the winter and dirt in the summer.  Only thing that slows it down is traction!  One day it wouldn't start!  No idea why!  It always starts!  Darned thing ran out of gas!  I almost never have to put gas in it and I just about forgot that it needs gas from time to time.

Yuppers, hp is never a way to go when talking Tractors, torque and gearing, and the smaller the engine the longer seat time you get depending on the gear thats selected, Wheel Horse not only made pritneer everything heavy duty but they also had to have studied the markets they were breaking into which brings up there transmissions to say the least. They were mached to there specific task and I might add a fair bit beyond. If I might say this though and it is just a personal wish, If Wheel Horse was ever brought back to life on its own I hope there is no parent company like Toro or whom ever to delute the real Wheel Horse engineering. I know Iknow just a pipe dream, but either way a good dream right.
