Installing XT series deck and Bagger on Classic

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, come along on my journey of installing an XT deck, power bagger and bags on my 312-8. Haha

long story short, I have about an acre of lawn that I have been cutting with my exmark 48” walk behind machine. Loved that machine and it did a great job cutting/striping. End of last season, the head gasket blew and upon replacing it, one of the head bolts threads stayed in the block. So she got sold off and I finished the season with my 312-8 with a 42” recycler deck. It did an ok job but I was just used to bagging my lawn and not seeing any clippings.

So I knew I needed to find a good deck, power bagger and bagging system.

I found a partial bagger and chute for a 312-8 but no deck or blower. then I found a 48” deck in very good shape so I scooped that up. I thought, I’m almost there!

last night I found a 416XT with a mint bagging system, power bagger blower, 42” deck and the deck counter weight. The motor is blown, but my plan is to take the wheel and tires off and install them on my 312-8 and make a dedicated turf machine.

here are my questions:

1. Can I take the blower off the XT deck and install it on my 48” deck?

2. if not, I have a rotted 48” deck off of a 310-8 that has a full cradle on it, could I pull all the mounting hardware off of that and install it on the 42” XT deck and install that on the 312-8?

Ultimately I would like to use the 48” deck simply for its larger size. Below are pictures of the 416XT I got it home late last night so I’ll grab some better pictures. And start tearing it down tomorrow.

Trying to combine the newer Toro deck parts with the original Wheelhorse decks is probable new territory for most of the Wheelhorse guys here.  Some pictures of each of the components your thinking of using might help you get some thoughts started.

Alright guys, I made some more progress on this over the weekend.

attached is a picture of the 416H I picked up (no engine) and the magnum 16 that I will be dropping into the tractor.

don’t plan on going a rebuild on it but I plan on ripping the tank off and doing a full tune up on it

Guys, looks like this “should” mount right up. The all red deck pictures below is a 42” deck from a 300 series. The deck with the black carrier and side mounted power bagger is the deck off the 416xt. They look different but look like they will mount right up! So far so good!

Finally got time to pull this machine into the project garage bay check out the mower deck. All I had to do swap the main bar that mounts to the attachamatic mount because the fork looking think is closer to the middle on the classic decks. See attached. She’s mounted! I’m going to make another thread on the building of this tractor.
