Maxwell-8 4,277 #1 Posted January 25, 2021 (edited) My raider 12 has a plastic fuel tank and it's leaking fuel strait on the battery It's a plastic one, and it's leaking where the shutoff valve is. Looks like there is not much pressure and the rubber seal. How can this be fixed? Can it be tightend? Edited January 25, 2021 by Maxwell-
Pullstart 62,922 #2 Posted January 25, 2021 That rubber grommet should likely be replaced. Before buying another, pull that one apart and inspect for cracks in the plastic tank. Then, the grommet is installed and the valve simply pushes in. 4

Pullstart 62,922 #4 Posted January 25, 2021 Yup. Twist and pull the valve, it’s just got an expanded end to hold it in place.

Pullstart 62,922 #7 Posted January 25, 2021 On this side of the pond, they are fairly easy to find. You see the valve has a pre-filter. If you can find the kit, it might be a better way to go than simply replacing the grommet. 1
peter lena 8,647 #8 Posted January 25, 2021 MAXWELL-8 , if the tank is not cracked in that area , LUBRICATE THE SEAL GROMET WITH A LIGHT GREASE , and ensure its sitting in place. rubber to rubber or similar surfaces will not " seat " to seal. having replaced all 3 of my tank seals / valves , it was the light grease film ,that made everything slide and fit in place. just an idea , pete 6
Maxwell-8 4,277 #9 Posted January 25, 2021 The tank is in good shape, gone try and find a new gromet set, for now, i used some ptfe-tape to make the grommet expand more, and used a washer beneath the gromet as it apperd to be saging, therefore letting gas leak thru. and used some grease. Thanks @pullstart, @peter lena Oh, yeah didn't i mentioned time for a proper fix ?
Maxwell-8 4,277 #10 Posted January 25, 2021 Is there a WH or Toro part number for this? I find this number, but not sure if it's correct, google gives nothing found with it: TORO #772030
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,055 #11 Posted January 25, 2021 77-2030 is the wrong grommet used on small Toro gas trimmers https://www.partstree.com/parts/toro-77-2030/ 104047 is the most common one we see but Wheel Horse did not use it until 1974 so yours may be different. https://www.partstree.com/parts/toro-104047/ This link to a Stens dealer shows the dimensions and hole diameter https://www.bantasaw.com/catalog/viewproduct.asp?i=&p=220 Garry
Ed Kennell 38,249 #12 Posted January 25, 2021 I find it much easier to install if I start the barbed fitting into the rubber grommet up to the first barb, then insert the grommet into the tank, then push the barbed fitting in place expanding the rubber to make the seal. Of course all parts should be greased before assembly. 6
haydendavid380 759 #13 Posted January 28, 2021 I had the same thing happen to me last year. Replacing the fuel lines and as soon as they moved gas started dumping. Bought a new valve and grommet, but couldn't for the life of me get it to seal. Finally gave up and put an old steel tank on it.

Lately it's been a crap shoot I've got a few things earlier than expected, some when they said, and others, I thought they'd never come.
