JohnD 145 #1 Posted January 23, 2021 Anyone have any tips or tricks for removing the caps off the front spindles? I removed one recently from a chipper. I pulled it with a large pair of channel locks but it got a bit mangled. I'm looking for a better way.

peter lena 8,897 #3 Posted January 23, 2021 johnD , agree with pullstart on the dust cap removal, usually just pull off, unless yours are metal , channel locks will still work with a side to side rocking action, if you are going into the bearing area , get some 3/4" ID thin washers at your local h/w store in the small pull out drawer section. use them to firm up that bearing play, ( if you want to ) , pete
lynnmor 7,415 #4 Posted January 23, 2021 Tap a thin pry bar in behind the cap, channel lock pliers is what our fine state inspection stations use to destroy the caps.
