Holy cows, did I read this correctly? That would mean you had at one time a minimum of around 120?! Possibly more? Yikes! And here I was thinking I ought to get rid of some of my six or seven of them because who needs so many dang lanterns, anyway? When this addiction began, I told the woman I could picture myself having 12-15 of them. A year later I counted 104, and it continued to spiral out of control from there, enough that I never dared count again. Guessing I probably peaked close to 200 before realizing this was a problem and started downsizing 1 4
lynnmor 7,302 #53 Posted November 8, 2021 I saw a real nice Montgomery Wards version at an antique shop, they were asking $85. I wonder if there is a demand for those?

Brought one er two in the house for mood lighting ... well when she told me it was leaking kerosene on the floor Out they went along with my hopes of getting some snugley and the end of my lantern days. 1
Roger R 442 #56 Posted November 9, 2021 Great thread. Brings back so many memories of camping, with buddies, then later with the family. Nothing quite like the sound / smell of the old Coleman suspended in the tent, than watching it slowly going out while settling into our sleeping bags. As I recall you could shut them off, and have enough time to crawl in before it got completely dark in the tent. Haven't spent the night in the tent in far too long. 2 1

I love hearing things like this! When my wife thinks I have a problem I can say "You should see this other guy..." Awesome collection though Greentored! You must have had quite the hoard if you still 60-70 after selling most of them. Pics were great and loved the red lantern on the WH! 1

Lane Ranger 10,943 #60 Posted November 10, 2021 This thread is about a great product for sure. I have two Coleman lanterns and two Coleman stoves - mostly forty to fifty years old but still going strong. The Coleman lantern did start life as a household lamp . I recall my great-grandfather telling me about how John D. Rockefeller use to sell kerosene at lower prices in early 1900 time period to run other kerosene sellers out of business. Rockefeller even bought a kerosene lamp company and sold lamps as enticement to buy his kerosene. Coleman's success was based on a very simple design that's bottle atomizer. was patented in 1900. The basic idea for fueling the 🔥 of the lamp was like a perfume bottle atomizer. The pressured fuel tank on the lamp (and later the lanterns) runs in a tube sling a wire. When you take apart a Coleman lantern and see the guts you have to scratch your head how Coleman came to outlast most of the liquid fueled lights of old. lots of patents at Coleman over the years. https://www.oldtowncoleman.com/reference/coleman-patents.htm 1

Lane Ranger 10,943 #63 Posted November 12, 2021 (edited) I only have two Coleman lanterns and two Coleman stoves but the lanterns both have factory made cases. The one in the green plastic case is a 1991 model I bought new with case. The one in yellow plastic case Is a 1971 I bought at a swap meet for $35. The stoves are a hiking/backpack type stove and an older, two burner 1950's 413E with original box. There great for camping, power outages or going to tractor shows. I use Coleman fuel in my Coleman gear and you can find it easily when traveling. I love the Coleman quality! More about the 413E. Meh, the Horse addicts are just as 'bad', but its much easier on the wallet and hiding places when the addictions average 20-30 bucks and are the size of a shoebox. We dont have a secret handshake, but the sound of a cooler lid slamming is quite common. Like a bunch of drinkers with a lantern problem 1

OutdoorEnvy 1,522 #66 Posted May 23, 2022 Thread check in...Any lantern finds from anyone? Son wanted to keep playing after dark for a bit on a nice cool Oklahoma night. Fired up the 62 Coleman...still the sunshine of the night!
OutdoorEnvy 1,522 #67 Posted September 6, 2023 Finally a fun new post for this thread! Scored a 200 model made in April 1951! It's the Christmas color scheme too so that's cool. I've been waiting for the right deal on a 200 and this one finally popped up at way under what I was wanting to pay. It was part of a cheap bundle of stuff someone was selling as a lot and obviously it all worked out me. Jack and I disassembled and cleaned it thoroughly. It had one of the old fuel caps that are dangerous as they have a vent hole on the side. So we borrowed a cap off the stove and it's working great. Looks good with it too! Jack is claiming this one as his since he thinks it's a "kid" size lantern. LOL! ....on to the pics! As we got her! Someone had this apart before and the frame and handle were sideways...we correct that later of course after our efforts Not sure if the pics show it well but did some research and the 200 models made in May of 1951 and earlier have brass founts. Kind of neat. Ready for deercamp! 3 1
Greentored 3,201 #68 Posted September 13, 2023 Aah, the ol 'Christmas' 200a- those are hard to find in the wild. Nice job!!
OutdoorEnvy 1,522 #69 Posted October 11 Got a 200a from 9/60 on the cheap! Had to grab it! Came home and it fired right up! Gotta love these things! I bought it from the original buyers son. As we got it, pretty clean really. Just had some surface rust on the metal parts. So we removed the rust and put it back together. Finished result! It even came with a homemade case! Has two slots, one for lantern and other for storage items. Had 8 mantles and an aluminum funnel too. Deer camp is getting brighter every year!
