CCW 1,292 #1 Posted January 14, 2021 Many of you have installed fencing on your property whether suburban or rural. I need to install two sections of welded wire fencing each about 60 feet long 48 inches high to fence in an older dog. Trying to decide if I should use T posts or U posts. Let me hear you opinions. ebinmaine 67,307 #3 Posted January 14, 2021 Same here. We put up well near 300 feet of welded wire to enclose Meeha Mirror Crazydog. TSC had the best price on T posts. Easy to use when we had a place we could drive them.

CCW 1,292 #7 Posted January 15, 2021 @ebinmaine @jabelman @SylvanLakeWH Did you use a post driver or sledge hammer to put in your posts?
WHNJ701 4,165 #8 Posted January 15, 2021 (edited) I took a shale bar and made "pilot" hole than hand sledge. I think I put around 25 in last spring for the berry garden and cages around fruit trees Edited January 15, 2021 by jabelman
ebinmaine 67,307 #9 Posted January 15, 2021 16 lb sledge and a fair amount of shoulder exercise. If I did it again.....? Buy a good heavy slide type post installer.
Darb1964 1,042 #10 Posted January 15, 2021 I have put in and taken out hundreds of t posts over the years, my wife bought me a driver and a puller a few years back, best investment in fencing you could get. Beats sledge hammer in, pushing them back in forth to loosen up and pull out gets old. Back and shoulders will thank you.

Daddy Don 905 #12 Posted January 15, 2021 No sledge hammer. Get the T Post installer. It also keeps you from tearing up the top of the post.
CCW 1,292 #13 Posted January 15, 2021 Thank you for all the feedback. TSC has what I need in stock and will get the slide hammer. 1

Pullstart 62,800 #16 Posted January 15, 2021 I’ve never heard of a U post. Therefore, the T post gets my vote!

I guess I could’ve been a little less lazy and just googled it myself but thank you, Eric. That makes sense.

CCW 1,292 #21 Posted January 16, 2021 Hey I have to say it again. Thanks for all the tips. Post driver was a miracle tool. Worth every cent. Even the tip about the tops chipping off. Had a few do that and realized it was a common occurrence. Fifty feet of fence done in one afternoon and without any difficulties and next section has to wait until the tree guy takes down the two huge pines in the yard. Fortunately the ground is not frozen.
