1965 John Deere 110 round fender

Picked this little guy up super cheap and its a one owner machine. Been in continued use up until 5 years ago. Then just stored in the corner for the last five years. So i decided to pick it up and do a patina restoration and complete mechanical on it.

Got alot tore down since i got it the other day and started cleaning and clear coating a few parts and redid the sterring wheel cap.

Bed linered the foot rest and blasted and re painted the nelson muffler as well.

I will be frowned on for this im sure, but i like them myself. I have a nice front end loder 65 110 as well

I have a 110 and a 112 just like that in my garage. Roughly the same state of assembly as well.

 

My grandfather was doing something with them when he died. Nobody really knows what.

yes they are i have a 1970 110 like the steering has a ross steering gear front end stout has roller brgs and races in front spindles pretty tough little tractor. 

does your speed variator still work? mine does but starting to vibrate when speeding up the tractor . not much fun to work on tho.

I disnt mess with the variavle speed to much. But i will go through all of it well apart.

If you do mess with the variator, and have a service manual, follow the procedure.  Keep in mind, there were some minor changes in the round fenders depending on year, so be sure you follow the procedure for your serial number.

Is the frame all a stamped piece?  How thick is it?  I have zero experience with them, but do enjoy the design of the body.

Never met a garden tractor I didn't like, with enough room and money, I would have one of every flavor!!!

@Chris G  What are your mechanical restoration plans for it. 

Will you be doing any transmission work?

The early ones had the 7HP Kohler and later one the *HP.  Which HP Kohler Engine does it have.

@oliver2-44 mine has a 8hp kohler. And by mechanical restoration, i will go through every nut and bolt and clean fix or repair everything in need and then reassemble. 

@pullstart the rear half of frame is 1/8 inch stamped steel woth a few plates welded on undernesth and the front half of frame is 1/4 steel stamped with a few pieces welded on and then both halfs were welded together

Well i got every nut and bolt seperated and some pieces left roughly assembled. Which i will tear apart again and go through piece by piece.

Im gonna try to save as much patina as possible. But some pieces will need a repaint for sure

@jabelman thanks and i am thinking it should be pretty nice as well. Ride a matic is another tractor on my bucket list, been waiting for the oppurtunity to find a good one

The 7 hp only were in the 1963 models, which can be easily identified by the placement of the deck lift lever.  They also had a 3 speed transmission, not the 4 speed, and had only 3 bolts for the rear hubs per side.  And had fiberglass fenders which may have been replaced with metal fenders.

 

As I mentioned, the round fender tractors had some minor changes throughout the years, 1963 to 1967.  In 1964 the 8 hp was dropped in, and the 4 speed transmission added, plus the lift lever was lowered and metal fenders replaced the fiberglass ones.  1965 added 5 bolts to the rear hubs.  1966 added the words "Variable Drive (or Speed, I can't remember which) to the dash and made some changes underneath with the clutch/brake mechanisms.  1966 also added the option of hydraulic lift, plus the 112 was introduced. 1967 the foot rests were welded on, not bolted.  There were some other changes, but I can't remember them all.

I spent a few hours cleaning the frame today and cleaned up steering and few odd components. Ill get more pics of progress as i go.

I think we are all guilty of getting one that was a little more then what we expected. But sometumes those ones turn out the nicest.

Finished cleani g a few thing today. Spent about 6 hours on the transaxle. Got to pick up a few things to seal it back up and that will be done.
