Hydro foot motion control adjustment

Recommended Posts

Pops

I have installed Matt’s system on my 520h it works fine in forward, barely moves in reverse. When it is in neutral it creeps in reverse, I would think if it was to creep it would be forward due to the speed variance. The tractor worked as it should before the installation.  I am missing something in the adjustment, the linkage appears to move freely.

Seems to me that you have a linkage or adjustment problem. Look under the seat at how far the cam is moving when you engage reverse. Then follow the linkage back to where the problem is. I have Matt's foot control on my 416-H and reverse works fine. I did find that you have to be very careful in properly assembling the linkage and all the other parts correctly.

WHX??

I have one of his kits on two of my 520s. One works great the other does just the opposite of yours Pops. Slow forward fast reverse Gotta be the cam adjustment. Not really looked into it yet. Check all the linkage in the tunnel too.

The essential part of the adjusting is to follow the operator manual's sequence. Start with the parking brake on and motion pivot bracket locked in "neutral" and rear wheels off the ground on safe jack stands with front wheels chocked. Then adjust the cam (or pivot-to-cam plate linkage if necessary) to get to no-creep neutral. Finally, move on to the linkages forward of the motion control pivot bracket.

And there is one more thing...

Just finished a rebuild with a '95 520-H chassis that has the metal tubing for most of the hydraulic lines. After it was together, it would only crawl in reverse using the floor-mounted control. Went through the cam and linkage adjustments but still it wasn't right.  Finally realized that the rearmost part of the pivot bracket was being obstructed by the hydro fitting on the front side of the pump and was unable to move fully in the "reverse" direction. Clearly this chassis had NEVER had full reverse speed--no wonder the PO sold it for parts!

You can see the dent in the top of the hydro fitting and the interference at the curved cutout of the bracket in these images:

Got in there with a Dremel grinder (wish I'd had the flex extender which is now on my "get soon" list) and squared off the curved section of the bracket (NOT the fitting!) until it was the cam on the hydro that stopped the movement toward reverse and not the hydro fitting or the lever's floor slot. Painted up the raw metal and closed it up. Now it scoots backward smartly.

Can't give advice on the foot control.  I had a different problem with my 520 too much reverse and could not adjust it out.

Once in reverse it was hard to get it back forward. The problem was a worn cam and cam plate. I also replaced the rod ends with heims joints

The cam had a flat place worn in it about 1/16" deep and the front side of the cam plate was worn. I replaced both and fixed it.

Yours  may not be worn but you may want to check them out.
