Greentored 3,216 #1 Posted January 8, 2021 (Moderators feel free to relocate if necessary) There has been some discussion here about balancing crankshafts, and kinda forgot about this video. Yes this is V8 stuff but the basics are the same, and it went over very well online. Dave/USA perf. is the guy I do all the crank work for as a side job. Thought some of you tech heads might enjoy! 5 2
Pullstart 62,922 #2 Posted January 8, 2021 Awesome stuff Scott! Is the bob weight filled identical on either side, that’s why it doesn’t matter their orientation?
oilwell1415 563 #3 Posted January 8, 2021 Good video. Those are some HEAVY rods and pistons for a small block.

tom2p 2,394 #6 Posted January 10, 2021 way back in the 70's when we (friends and myself) were junior high / high school age and began to play with engines - funds were especially limited for us - balancing was barely a consideration primarily because of the cost - and balancing (by itself) did not have an associated advertised horsepower increase however one friend did a better job saving his money and did his engine the correct way - he used better parts and and had a reputable shop do the machine work including balancing - and that engine was *sweet* ... (331 small block - 327 bored .030 over ?) ... big step up from the stuff the rest of us put together at the time

And you’re correct- not really any power gains to be had by balancing- just a smoother running engine and less wear and tear on bearings and parts.
