Rubber tracks

This idea keeps catching my eye.  Not sure I'm up to it but I sure like thinking I might!  

 

I'd think this would be the easiest way to have a mini dozer after adding independent braking somehow.  My 147 Cub has disc brakes that I guess could become independent but I'm not sure what other tractors might work somehow.

Cute, but I see nothing to keep the rubber bands on those tires. I deal with crawlers all the time. The tracks have flanged rollers and toothed sprockets to locate them Water or a little mud, tight turn and you get to put the bands back on. Take a look at any large rubber tracked ag tractor  There is a row of locating lugs on the inside portion of the bands.

I've been thinking about making a bigger set of brakes for Colossus. Good link.

I won't be disassembling the transmission at this point to have keyways put into the axles but if I could figure out how to do it by bolting them onto the back of the hubs that would be every kind of neat.

I've always thought this method was for dry conditions only.  That would sort of defeat the purpose...

 

However, I'd think that ribs or even screws or studs from the inside of the track.  Something could be done.

Jim, I wonder how much of a sidewall could be retained yet still become playable to an oval?  I imagine more sidewall = less chance of PING!

 

I realize it’d probably not sound like ping or twang, more like thmbld
